Few things split opinion as much as the widely held UK opinion that a car is knackered by the time it hits 100k. So to disprove the theory what's the highest mileage car you've owned?

My own effort are poor. I took a 205GTI from 45k to 136k. It had it's quirks but was mostly reliable. Also bought a Xsara Picasso 2.0 hid on 140k and took it to just over 160k. Sold it to a local guy 5 years ago and still see it driving about.

Lets hear(read) them.

I’ve taken my BMW 335i from 41k to 156k and it’s still going strong. Hope to make 200k!

Very impressive.

What ended the Corolla?

I ran a VW Passat B5 shape that had about 320k on the clock when I got rid of it, but I only had for 8k of those miles. The previous 250k or so had been racked up in its former life as a taxi (car was sold to me cheap by a family member who is a taxi driver).

I got rid of it in the end due to the car repeatedly going into limp mode. It was probably the turbo but not worth spending any money chasing the issue.

My omega 3.2 MV6 has 232K on the clock. I've used it 4 years and it had 163k on the clock.

All the usual GM problems, including chocolate front wishbones, cam cover gaskets that fail, due to st oil breather design, crank sensor failed, and I have replaced the coil packs. And the Cats. And the oil filter housing started leaking so i stepped back a year to the 3.0 V6 and now have a screw on oil filter.
Oh and the radiator started leaking.
I've replaced auto transmission fluid and gearbox internal filter. And a door. (I got it with a dent and found one I the right colour for £25 in a scrap yard)

All in all I want to see if I cam get it to 300k.

My family perceive me as crazy.

I'm not much help here really, as I can't even remember how many miles were on my first two cars. My current Evo 6 is around 80k and my Corvette is at 3,000 LOL.

The Mrs just bought an 'old' Mini countryman which has about 80,000 on the clock, so I'm hoping that concept of a car being knackered with 100k on the clock is indeed a myth as we're hoping that'll be the runaround for quite a while.

That said, with the amount of miles we actually do, it'll be a while until the Mini is at 100k, and even longer until the Evo gets there. And the Corvette never will.

My BMW E46 330ci has the highest mileage of any car I've owned. It is on 142,000 miles and still going strong.

I'm not very easy on the car, as I use it for track days, Ring trips, dumping at train stations / supermarkets and general every day short trips.

Today I've put it up for sale on FB market place, it has had loads of interest and messages. But I decided I can't be arsed with all the hassle, so I'm keeping it. Let's see what mileage she will do before it goes to the scrap yard.

Our Defender 110 is on 182,000 miles but it is knackered. It's just got a new MOT after a bit of welding but it's at that tricky stage where you dont want to spend a penny more than you need to keep it going but it costs too much to replace it. We were quoted £28k to rebuild on a new chassis with new parts as required - ie just about everything. A worthwhile younger replacement with less miles would be £15-18k. So 12ish to swap and so we'll do what we always do which is put off making a decision for another year..

Omg! Does that include an engine rebuild?

A chassis swap is around 5-7k and you may as well do brake / fuel lines at the same time, along with a few other nice jobs, so call it £9-10k.

What Defender do you have?

My 200tdi Defender was my P&J until rust set in and almost killed the old girl. I fixed it up and sold it on with 12 months MOT, but I think about it nearly every day cry

I had an Oldsmobile Cutlass with 412,000 miles on it when the engine finally gave out. It got basic servicing only for 30 years (and service items) but didn't let one of the 3 owners down ever.

E39 530d. Bought with high miles (220k). Took it to 230k spending not a penny, and sold it for what I paid for it. I did most of those as business miles, so it was the cheapest car I've ever had.

Bought from it's first owner, who had it as a company car and then took it with him. Loads of history, still on the original clutch, injectors, and turbo.

It would do 750 miles to a tank.

My dad's had his petrol X5 (in the background of the top pic) from new, and it now has 253,000 miles on it.

Took an Mg Midget from 70k to 180k, mind it was knackered twice in that time.
A cavalier sri from 84k to 187k, no real issues
a Jaguar x type diesel from 145k 210k no real issues
a 1970 series 2a land rover from 94k to 115k. Plenty of issues but it is 50 years old.
And presently running a Lexus RX400h from 84k and now on 136k, apart from service items it has cost £62 in parts over the last 4 years.

Probably a few more high milers in there but I cant remember, tend to change cars every 3 or 4 years and rarely buy newer than 10 years old with less than 80k, been doing this since 1981.
