Anyone scrapped a car recently? I have a couple of sheds that I bought for a cancelled event that will not pass another MOT and I want rid. I see many sites online that offer to buy scrappers but have never heard of anyone's experiences with them. Any tips for the least hassle/most cash approach?

Thanks.

ring round a few, take the best price with quickest collection.

They'll all be around similar price.

I scrapped a car when prices were pretty low.

No money changed hands due to the cost for them to collect from a rural farm location.

Hassle free though. Paperwork properly done and it was gone the next day.

Last one I used was RemoveMyCar.co.uk

It's sent out to multiple operators around your area to bid on, and you just pick the best price.

The only stipulation was that it had to be on 4 wheels to get the full price - otherwise they'd reduce the price due to requiring a different recovery vehicle - mine was simply a non-runner due to clutch failure and the clutch job would have cost more than the car was worth.

A mate of mine recently scrapped his MoT-expired (and faulty) Fiat Panda using a firm called Charles Trent Ltd.

Gave him a price (which was fairly decent for a scrapper), collected the car, did the paperwork, paid him straight into his bank account.

Pretty sure he was impressed with the service.

A group of mates did a field rally day a few years ago, cars were trashed. Local guy picked 3 up at a time, and scrapped them. Was probably pretty lucrative for the guy as we had the following; skoda felicia x2, Vauxhall omega x2, rx8, Kia something, Subaru impreza x2, Peugeot 206, e46 320d. As above, no cash changed hands due to location. But was spot on.

Otherwise, put an advert on facebook market place for £50, be be aware there will be droves of idiots contacting you.

The only money in a scrap car unless it's something which might get an enthusiasts attention is the Catalytic convertors, may be worth looking into how those are valued as there are people who will just buy the cat off you for half decent money if you can remove them then let the cars go to a scrap man for free on collection may be the best bet.

I've found the prices are generally better on comparison scrap sites such as cartakeback and removemycar than going direct to a scrappie. There are independents who pick up cars and can offer surprising amounts. Most scrap operations are pretty slick with even a pdf of the certificate of destruction being emailed.

I used Cartakeback, they paid nearly £200 for a 07 plate Jazz

Could have got a lot more if i had sold privately, but i couldn't stomach the thought of all the dheads it was bound to attract.

Local scrapyard came and took it away, it was MOT'd by the end of the same week laugh

Loads wrong with it too, but i guess if you have a scrapyard you have access to all the parts it needed

Nationwide salvage state they pay salvage prices not scrap prices, I got £500 for a 2010 Audi A4.
