Just been hit with a 40 quid fine for not taxing the 911.
Thought we usually got a reminder?

I pay by DD and got an email, saying that the DD has been renewed, but haven't had a reminder by post in years.

Mine ran out in September last year. Never got a reminder, only realised when i went to MOT it and checked, luckily it was only a week or so overdue. Even with Covid the reminder never turned up, i did get a "last chance" about 3 weeks after renewed it.

They do - I got one for my 3 Series a few weeks ago and taxed it yesterday.

If you didn't you presumably live at a different address to the "registered keeper" even if that is you!

But it's not hard to check the Road Tax status for the car on "youguv".

If you tax it by a continuous / recurring payment (Direct Debit - either monthly, 6 monthly or yearly) then you don't get a postal notification just an email confirming the upcoming renewal, with an attached payment schedule, which normally comes through about a week or so before the payment is taken.

If you tax by a one off payment (Debit / Credit Card) then a paper reminder gets sent to the address registered on the V5.

The reminder has the 16 figure number you need to pay online, plus, of course, the amount.

Put it down to experience & paid me 40 quid debt to society.
Paid for 12 months as the 911 is a keeper & set reminder in the phone.

Even if it wasn't a keeper you would get refunded the unused months when you sold it.

I got my road tax email but never got my MOT remainder email.
The DVLA does have a service to setup remainders online. Go paperless

I had a text to say my tax had expired. Strange I thought and when checking DVLA online our 3 cars are taxed. It was a scam text.

I have a vehicle on SORN at the moment - I must have had 10 texts and emails reminding me about tax and MOT. I guess there's a box I ticked somewhere saying I wanted this (useful) service.

A woman on our local Facebook group got caught by that. Signed up and thought her car was taxed until she got pulled over a few months later.

I pay by Direct Direct Debit so get an e-mail each year to tell me what the increase is and what the repayments are.

Another scam to watch out for.

I recently taxed my car online , then a day later got a scam email saying that my payment had been unsuccessful as apparently there wasn't enough money on my debit card! Click on this link to make a payment.

Everything on the email looked to be authentic, even down to the correct DVLA logo's and .gov typeface, apart from the strange grammar and wording, and a dodgy looking email address ending in .be, in the sender address line.

You check your vehicle is taxed on Gov.uk not youguv. Yougov is a polling company, they won't tell you if your car is taxed!

Do you remember giving the DVLA your mobile phone number? They certainly don’t have my number.
