Marshmallow Insurance

Anyone have any experience with Marshmallow insurance?

They seem to be coming up quite a bit cheaper (£100/25%) than anyone else on confused.com

It looks like they don't include DoC cover, but I can live without that.

No experience so feel free to ignore.

Two-star Defaqto rating suggests the policy is somewhat billy-basic in terms of the cover offered, which is presumably why it’s cheaper.

I would examine the T’s&C’s very carefully.

I’ve never heard of them, but a 2 star Defaqto rating would put me off. Sometimes the cheapest isn’t the best.
Saying that I did insure my car with GoSkippy this year who were second cheapest (cheaper one was a black box policy) but they do have a 5 star Defaqto rating and good reviews so thought worth a try.

They look like a broker using a tech platform to keep costs down. Try as I might, I can’t find out who the actual insurer is, although they use AXA for breakdown, so it could be them. They’ve got a proper filing with the FCA, so it’s a genuine outfit though.

I used them as they were roughly half the price of the next cheapest option. They seem to specialise in insuring foreign drivers (e.g. people without UK driving licences).

I’ve not had to make a claim yet (touch wood), but based on the one time reported an ‘incident’ (car stolen; recovered with no damage), the response I had didn’t fill me with confidence.

They’re underwritten by something called ‘Mulsanne Insurance Company”, which sounds like a venture run by hedge funds... Make of that what you will.

Interestingly, when running some renewal quotes, and despite using a different name and reg (for the exact same model and age of car), they say they won’t insure me now...

It's a reference to a whoosh parrot. The poster you responded to was talking about sugary marshmallows, and those confectionery items being so cheap they didnt need insuring. You misunderstood, and supposed them to be talking about not insuring a vehicle.
