Hi folks

My SiL runs a 66 plate 1.0 ecoboost focus as a daily. She’s owned it for the last 3 years but this year is the first year she’s decided to take it out of the dealer network and get it serviced locally.

I’ve tried a bit of Googling Myself, but I haven’t yet seen the paperwork for what has been done to date. She asked me if I can ‘sort’ it this year (she’s a head in the clouds kind of a person) and save her some money over what the dealer will charge her.

Before I make a booking etc to get the MoT and service done. Can anyone tell me what it ‘should’ have had done so far and what it ‘should’ be done in its 5th year?

Is it belt or chain? What’s the schedule? 5th year, is it just oil, air and fuel filters and away we go?

I would have thought that was cheap as chips to get serviced by your local Ford dealer.

If (as you appear to be) really concerned about doing things properly, and keeping to the manufacturer's service schedule, then stick to your local Ford dealer.

Ford publish the service schedules.

Go here: https://www.etis.ford.com/

Click the tab at the top "Vehicle", then enter reg/VIN and you can find all sorts of info including the service sheets. thumbup

These are a belt, but it runs in oil and the servicing is critical as the belt can shed fibres which can clog the pickup.

Great engines despite the initial issues but well worth keeping up to, or exceeding the Ford schedule.

I’ve kept both our Fords at the dealer. Motor craft service is about £180 tops. They wash and vacuum it and I also get free AA breakdown cover on both cars. Last services were £149 for our 16 plate Focus ST and £139 for our 15 plate B Max. Both with a discount code for booking online. Also with Covid restrictions, they picked up and dropped off both cars and I paid over the phone. When the breakdown service stops I’ll be servicing myself using the easily downloaded schedules on Etis.

Whilst the Ecoboost is not a bad engine there have been cases of early cars having failures. If you keep the car in the Ford network you are more likely to get goodwill if something does fail. As for prices, call the dealer and see if they do menu prices or a price match.
