Does anyone have any experience of either:

Michelin PS4 vs Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2

On a 2017 Volvo V40 D3 R Design Pro

Need to replace with 4 x new tyres and pricing is very close for both. Good grip wet and dry would be great, but so would less road noise.

Any thoughts on the above would be much appreciated.

The Dunlops are OEM fit (or were) on my old IS250. Very quiet. Never had an issue and I drove it fairly hard.

IME Dunlops on both two and four wheels are very vehicle dependent, and don't suit some cars/bikes.

Blackcircles have 15%off on both brands and for the Clio the Dunlop worked out quite a lot cheaper (£95 vs £75).

I've had both sets. The Dunlop didn't like the rain IMO. However, I now have a set of Eagle F1 Supersport which are better than the PS4, IMO. The rain makes little to no difference to the performance of them. Bit noisier until bedded in though.

ATS have a good deal on PS4 at the moment.

If you have Lloyds rewards you can get 10% cashback on top, or use one of the cashback sites for around 4%.

Best scenario is claim Lloyds 10%, sell dashcam for £50 and you get yourself 4 PS4's for about £220!

I ran the PS4 on my old M140i and quite honestly still can't think of a bad thing to say about them. Confidence inspiring across a wide range of temperatures and conditions, quiet and very impressive wear.

Had the Sport Maxx as OE fit on our old Clubman Cooper D. The car wasn't pushed to the limit, but I do recall there being a much more marked difference between wet and dry grip that I ever noticed from the Michelins (albeit on a different car).

PS4/PS4S would be my go-to tyre at the moment. They just do everything so well, and they last as well.

Even if the other tyre was a ditchfinder I couldn't bring myself to buy anything that uses two xx.

I put PS4 on my STi and really don't like them, much preferred the F1 that had been on previously. They feel bouncy and lack feel. The PS4S on my Yaris are a different story.

Cheers for that!! I also have Lloyd's rewards, so 10% cashback it is.

And your idea with the free dash cam is superb. Looks like I will be going ahead with this deal. Thanks once again.

What sizes?

I've run PS4s for a while now and found them to be superb; but have also found them to have a tendency to drone after a few years, once the stickier outer rubber has worn off. That was on 18" alloys though and in staggered sizes

I'm also a huge fan of Goodyear F1s, Vred Ultrac Vorti's and Uniroyal RainSport 5s

I've a few pals that have had the Dunlops and they stated never again; not great in wet or dry and noticeable road noise

Size is:

225/40/18

I've had the Dunlop tyres on my old R56 Mini and they were excellent. The current tyres on my V40 are PS3's, and they are pretty good. Only issue is that they can be slightly noisy, but I would much rather have better grip over noise.

Very popular size; lots to choose from and dirt cheap!

Camskill are always good; you just need to get your tyres fitted locally for £beertokens wink

The Conti Contact6s are supposed to be very good also; the Vred Ultrac Vorti, F1s, PS4s and Dunlops are all there too. As are the Uniroyal Rainsport 5s etc

Spoiled for choice! wink
