Only at the next renewal when they ask 'have you made any claims?'

If they are daft enough to ask if she has made any claims, she can honestly say No.

If on the other hand they ask the more normal "any incidents", she might have to tell them theft incident, no claim made.

Out of interest, when it was nicked, why no claim, and cancel the policy?

I don't understand, " no claim was made, car found and crushed" ?? if it was found why was it crushed? did the insurance pay out on a total loss.

She did not want the hassle and though if she did not claim it would not impact her insurance,

There was no claim, she thought the car wouldn't turn up and did not want the hassle of going through insurance. It was found in the end it was damaged and the crushed it in the end.

Doesn't matter, they clearly ask.....

Have you had any motor accidents, claims or losses in the past 5 years, no matter who was at fault or if a claim was made?

The answer is yes.

But she had notified insurer of the loss, so it will be on record.

Out of interest, what model and year was it? What was it worth?

To notify the insurer of the theft and then not claim is the worst of both worlds I’m afraid.

How on earth do people make these decisions?

Why would you tell the insurer if you're not going to claim, and cancel your policy?

It depends on how the question is framed, different insurers ask different questions.

Indeed, when I bought insurance for a classic car a couple of weeks ago, they only asked about accidents, convictions and claims, they did not ask about losses. I can't remember any time I have been asked about 'losses' come to think of it, but I will try and remember!

Yep, OP has form for these sort of threads. I remember that one. Claimed they had a car "stolen", but evidently Police had located it & recovered it to a depot within a few hours.

For some reason, not to dissimilar to the same reason given in this thread, the OP immediately cancelled their insurance, but was then unhappy when the Police told them they'd need to either pay to release the car and / or pay storage fees for every day it remained on site. Then they went into a rant about how unfair it was that the Police had refused permission to go on site & strip various parts off the car, so they could sell them later on Facebook or similar, and then expected the Police would be fine with paying to scrap whatever was left of the car laugh
