There used to be a popular Saturday night TV programme called YOU BET.
( Forsyth... Between 1988 - 1990)

Contestants had a unique feat or memory.
They had their challenge... if they won, they got a medal.

This 17yr old chap reckons he can name 40 tail lights.

This clip is years old.. so put your thinking caps on.

GO!!!...
(Wonder if he’s a PH’er or went into the motor industry).

I remember watching that at the time. There was also a chap who worked in a motorbike shop who identified a load of bikes (make and model) from just their engine sounds.

Can’t remember if I saw this 30 years ago though yikes

The You Bet I remember was with Matthew Kelly.

I'm pretty sure someone was on there identifying cars by the sound of the door closing.

There was a similar show in Germany called "Wetten, Dass?" ('Bet on that?') which in one episode a kid claimed to be able to recognise the make and model of cars simply by hearing the sound of their doors closing. He failed. He may or may not be a NVH engineer now.

I used to like that Show. Not watched the clips yet though.

I used to be able to do the headlights thing. I could sit on an evening down at the village crossroads and could tell what cars were coming from the shape of their headlights.

I was pretty good with engine sounds too, to tell the manufacturer.

Yes, i was such a cool kid!

(and still am!)

One challenge that stuck in my mind was a guy who could name the song by how a candle flickered next to a speaker ( he had ear defenders on iirc ) fairly sure he failed lol

Loved You Bet!

Used to love that show as a kid - great post.

There was another where a guy named the car by the plastic wheel trims alone (with centre cap blanked out) - again, I think he got every one!.

I think I could have got nearly all of those rear lights, perhaps except the Fiat Chroma and perhaps the Peugeot 505 lamp....although no way could I have done it that time frame!
