These seem to be popping up on lamp posts around Stockport - what are they for?
Are they speed cameras, traffic cameras, Norad Santa trackers, or are they just checking I'm still wearing my mask while driving?

Aaaaah... that makes sense, I didn't think of that. So no velocity measuring capabilities then? Excellent smile

They may be speed cameras, a lot that look very similar have been springing up near me around road junctions and at traffic lights

Part of the new clean air initiative I assume.

You will also probably see these signs being put up too.

Ahhh the good old 'Catch all zone' absolute tossers of the highest order. Virtually blocking all access from NE Cheshire to the M56,M60, M61 M62 etc unless you go via Knutsford or pay a £10 charge for about a 6 year old van or £60 for an older truck.

I wonder how long before they extend it to cars scratchchin

Bring on the CAZ! Can’t wait, to be honest. I’m sick of sitting behind smoke belching taxis, vans, buses and lorries in the Manchester traffic. Banish them I say!

I've answered my own question now ANPR has been mentioned - yes it is an emissions zone anpr camera, one of 850+ cameras to be fitted within Greater Manchester. I can't find anything that suggests they can be used for speed enforcement. Oh joy. They're presumably green, carbon neutral, solar powered and completely recyclable too rolleyes

Found details on this website (warning - dashcam content)
https://www.cocotbodol.com/author/dashcamdays/

And here's the map of my area showing how many they're fitting
https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1VRHFTdMa...

Also found this gem of a quote elsewhere : "In my roles as the Chair of Net Zero North West and CEO of Siemens, it fills me with immense pride to be able to deliver Net Zero North West’s Economic Investment Prospectus, which outlines £207bn green investment, £285bn GVA and over 660,000 jobs."
Go on, have a guess which german electronics company makes the cameras rofl

Just asked for a friend…

Thank you for your web enquiry regarding our Sicore II ANPR camera.
In response I can confirm that for the UK market the Sicore II camera has Home Office Type Approval for average speed enforcement only and could not be used for ‘spot speed’ enforcement
