Looking for a bit of informal legal advice/similar experiences, my finace was driving back from manchester having had the front tyres changed less than 2 hours previously. The front driver side tyre fell off as she was going along the M6.

Is there anything that I can do legally speaking?

The tyre came off the wheel? Or the wheel came off the car?

Tyre or wheel? There’s a difference you know.
Is a finace a car, not heard of it?

Highly unlikely the tyre parted from the rim unless it's been run flat for a while... more likely the wheel came off which would probably require a new pair of underpants and a call to the emergency services and breakdown people to get it recovered / damaged assessed then it'd be a call to the garage tomorrow. But most will have disclaimers all over the place saying wheel nuts should be rechecked within 50 miles... which none of us do, but maybe this is why we should. But ultimately, not enough information given by the OP so commence speculation in 3, 2, 1...

The garage I use have a disclaimer on bottom of each invoice to 'check my nuts after 50 miles' or some such.

Guess this is why.

Just because its had tyres doesn't mean you cannot pick up a puncture or hit a pot hole but its very hard to get a tyre off the rim.

Garage or tyre place? Always struck me as odd that tyre places nearly always say this but I've never seen it in a garage.

It would seem oddly coincidental if a tyre or wheel came off shortly after having a new one fitted. I'd suggest contacting the tyre fitter asap with photos and any evidence of damage.

You need to clarify if the whole wheel or the tyre came off. And did the AA or anyone sort it out? If so then their comments on the cause would be useful. Might be the key to deciding if it was related or not.

Its a garage.

Seems sensible for any where that takes your wheels off to be fair.

So if you buy a new car, might have typically 6-7 miles on it, you're supposed to take it back a few miles later to get the nuts/bolts re-torqued?

My mobile fitter makes me watch him torque up each wheel nut once a tyre has been changed.

Always thought it a little odd, but I suppose it makes sure he remembers to do it.
