How do I know original list price of a used car?

I've been looking at used cars on Autotrader.

When you look at the running costs it states that if the original list price of the car was over £40k(with options) the Road tax is an extra £320 per year for 5 years.

For instance some Golf r mk8s were under £40k then the price went up to over £40k so you could finish up paying out an extra £1600 in tax over 5 years for essentially the same car!

Any way of finding out the original list price with options?

If you just want to know the tax band, isn't there a government site which tells you it from the registration plate?

Put the reg in here. If the car is subject to the additional five-year rate, it will show the date of the car's fifth birthday next to the box that reads "Additional Rate applicable until"...

If the car is not subject to the additional five-year rate, the option won't show.
