The cost isn’t £10, that will be your glass repair excess. If you went to Autoglass outside your insurance they charge £198.71 inc. VAT. I usually use another local company that charge £60.
If the chip repair fails and turns into a crack then you will need to replace the screen which will require a second claim.

If. Attempts to repair with some repairers and the systems they use 'fail' more than others.
Some attempts also look the same - or not much different - after repair. This is because it simply hasn't been repaired properly.
IME, something like 6/10 attempts to repair either fail or the windscreen is condemned (and subsequently replaced) when the damage itself is - was - perfectly repairable.
OP: any chance of an image?

On the re-appear thing - if it looked okay today, but reappears after 24/48 hours, that's because head was applied to the break during repair. This closes the break and prevents resin from penetrating the crack. Glass expansion. It'll look great when you sign for it, but as the glass cools it will reappear. One of the oldest, most common malpractices in the trade.

It doesn't warrant a new screen. That's a repair all day long. With the right person, using the right equipment I'd wager my left testicle that a repair would be an acceptable and satisfactory outcome.
