It's an urban Myth that insurance companies just pay out any amount if they are going to make a recovery from someone.

All claimants have a common law duty to mitigate their loss (act as if they were not insured and are paying for any loss from their own pocket), as well as providing evidence to support the loss.

The sheet with amounts sounds like it's from the insurance companies damage estimating system used by the engineers to check the damage total.

What makes you think the third party has exaggerated the extent of their damage and what evidence do you have of this ?

Having a £3000 all sections excess on a policy seems unusual. Is your policy a motor trade or company fleet policy as opposed to a private car policy.

If it's the price of parts you'll probably find that the prices are genuine manufacturer parts at MRRP (manufacturer's recommended retail price)

They don't shop around for 'aftermarket' or used parts & the genuine can be eyewatering.
