I came across same forum topic but that has been from 2007, since then a lot has changed, Road tax doesn’t work same way as before, now we have ULEZ zones in London which no doubt will be expanding and finally the petrol prices are not same, cars on other hand got more expensive, both brand new and the ones on second hand market.

So my question being what cars (not necessarily old) do you folks reckon, mark their owner out as ridiculously wealthy whilst refraining from shouting money?

From people I know personally, Volvo v70 2014 reg, golf gti mk7, new shape polo, Jaguar XK 2007

I agree that the thread is fairly ridiculous but for what it's worth the four people i know of who own quite a bit of land locally drive the following: a Land Cruiser, a Nissan Navara, a Subaru Outback and a Fiat 500 Abarth.

So you reckon somone driving around in a newer VW Polo marks them out as ridiculously wealthy without shouting about it?

What?!

Surely this topic is just 'people I know that have a lot of money but don't spend it on cars.'

I know lots of people with lots of money and all of them own or have owned what you'd call flash cars.

Or just: 'I know people who are ridiculously wealthy'

Bailer twine. Has nobody mentioned bailer twine yet?

"and held together with bailer twine" usually comes in at some point.

I am curious to know why the OP has an apparent obsession with this relatively inane topic, and seemingly nothing else on the PH spectrum over the time he has been here - 30 months and 10 posts IIRC?

Two wealthiest people I know are diametrically opposed in terms of cars
One drivers older Range Rovers until they drop, the other buys top of the range Porsches

Probably I have some sort of inferiority complex, but apart from that I do a lot of research as I’m working on a book which I have abandoned due to serious illness which touch wood is on a mend. Thanks for caring about my mental health.

I don’t get all this ‘old money means they don’t show it off with cars’ etc it just means they don’t like cars. Their flash watch, expensive tweed suits, fancy restaurants do all their talking.
If I was rich my money would be on cars because I like them, I’d still wear my normal clothes, either dog walking, gym or work outfit. Not fussed about watches or posh restaurants neither give me some proper hearty country pub grub to eat outside on a bench with my dog looking at my 275 GTS and il be the happiest boy around!

Uncalled for victim card response there. The question had nothing to do with your mental health.

Good luck with your health but any book which suggests that a new shape Polo marks their owner out as ridiculously wealthy might be better not to be published.
