Does anyone check their oil and tyres anymore?

Just having a discussion in the office.
I’m the only one that checks their fluids in the cars once a month.

Do I work with a bunch of luddites?

Eve I had cars I liked it was much more frequently

I think with TPS and oil level sensors, it's less of a requirement.

Constantly. I've topped up the oil on my work truck this afternoon. Checked all other fluids aswell.
Checked the tyre pressures on my trailor and its spare yesterday.
Nothing unusual in that.

It was all kinds of stuff new tiguans to 9 year old Audis and fiestas

I’m genuinely shocked that people will put the kids in a complex piece of engineering and not check it once a month

I check tyres. The rest is not needed. Not on modern sub 3 year old cars.

Yes. I'd say probably twice a month on my modern car and my work van.

Classic only once a year. It does about 1k a year.

Yep, I check oil and tyre pressures every two weeks or so. My previous car had no dipstick which I found quite disconcerting, although I got used to it.

Checked the tyres on the Lexus before I drove it yesterday. Only visual did not check pressures. I check the oil every so.often, although it will.let you know it is low going up.the steep hill from my house. I only drive twice a week or so so always have a quick which ever car I get in for tyres being inflated. Che

I've barely opened the bonnet on this one. If it wants something doing it will tell me.

Depends on the car. The TVR it’s every time I wash it, never lifted the bonnet on the company Tiguan. There’s no need too. If it bongs at me the lease company sort it.

Having said that, I hadn't checked the coolant level in our very ancient and increasingly decrepit Hilux for a while and found the thing overheating a mile and a half from home at 5am on the way to the station last month. I left it to cool for a few minutes and then managed to drive it to the river in our village. I pinched a couple of plastic bottles from someone's recycling bin and refilled the radiator from the river. It ran on river water quite happily for a few weeks, but has now had a tap water upgrade along with a new radiator cap.

I am afraid most people have no idea this is necessary nor how to.....

The car may get a service once a year and I guess they expect that to find and correct tyres/oil etc. Saying that some don't even bother with servicing and appear to think the MOT solves all problems with fairy dust.

I look at the tyre pressures daily on the on board computer(M4/GLE400d). I check the oil(also on the on board computer) roughly every week too. The 370Z is old school though, so I have to faff around with the dipstick on that and use my tyre inflator to see what the tyre pressures are doing!

But I do a lot of miles for work.

I've also a little more interest in tyres than many 'normal' people (although debatable considering this site); I used to be a buyer for them, and have spent a lot of time with Bridgestone, Michelin and Goodyear engineering and account teams in the past and some of that tends to stick....admittedly I've not been keeping up with car performance stuff over the last few years though.

Work wise, work are very good at reminding everyone to check (tyres more than oil) VP at one place I worked was off for a very long time due to serious injury after they were hit by a driver running bald and under inflated tyres...resulting in several fatalities.

Most of the general public seem unconcerned and will happily wear the cheapest ditchfinders down to slicks, even on modern performance vehicles.

So in your opinion, taking your knowledge into account, which brand would you recommend out of those three? Just curious, I'm wondering which spends the most and has the most attention on quality and R&D?

Both ours tell us everything oily

However yes check all the tyres once a week when I clean them...not closely mind you, just feel the bumps!!

Classics - oil check before every journey (only used a couple of times a month). Tyres once every couple of months or before a long journey.

Moderns - oil once every 4 months or so. Tyres before a long journey (they have sensors but I usually increase pressures as we load up a lot for camping)

Would always have checked one a month at least but now I have a wife and kid, I'll check both and a few other bits if they're on a journey out of town just to set my mind at ease.
