I've recently spent a few days up in Shetland and was amazed at the the number of public EV charging points to be found, even in rural areas. Every village seemed to have one, and in the only town, Lerwick, there were several to be seen, all clearly signed.
Back on the mainland and back in Stirling, the only public EV chargers I have seen are in the car park at Tesco. It seems as if our northerly neighbours are embracing electric power. Mind you, they have plenty of wind to power turbines!

There's two uses for a charger... and sometimes it takes a mindset change to understand it.
If you can charge at home, as many early adopters can, you don't need or really care about charger in your home town. Instead you'd rather have one where you're going (eg. on hols).
If you can't charge at home it's a different picture, then you want them ideally in carparks like the supermarket, or public car parks. Assuming of course you can't have them actually on your street.
I suspect your northern neighbors are catering to the first use, providing chargers for tourists.
A lot of people who could charge at home, still have the ICE mindset of wanting a petrol station in the same town, so they can fill up, not realizing that if you have an EV that petrol station is at their home, and they want them instead at destinations or a way away en-route.
Now I await being told I'm wrong.
