Convertibles left open
Discussion
I know it’s probably a mental issue on my part, but I have to admire the optimism of people who walk away leaving their convertibles open and just don’t give it a second thought.
I would be dreading the chance-in-a-million sewage tanker accident that leaves my pride and joy brimmed with the brown stuff or other similar unpleasantness on my return.

Thats why we have insurance!
For people damaging your interior?I do.
I’ve had a couple of instances of bird poo which is annoying, however many years ago I left the car with the roof off while I went shopping (Gateshead Metrocentre) - was probably gone about 90mins. Came out to see some lovely person had emptied a McDonald’s vanilla milkshake all over the drivers seat (and thrown the empty cup in the footwell) which had almost fully dried on.
Thankfully they have onsite car wash and valet teams who sorted it for me in a reasonably short time but was annoying.

I will do it when it's only for a few minutes, on in the work car park/on my drive but never in public for more than 20 minutes or so.
I have been caught out before though, on the driveway all afternoon not realising the heavens had opened. It took 2 days for the car to dry out fully.

I went to a diy store with my daughter the other day. She was driving her 207CC but kept the roof up because the a/c is pleasantly fierce.
We parked next to a 3 series convertible that was left with its roof open. Both cars enjoyed the dappled shade of the nearby large tree. Unfortunately, both cars were also enjoying a deluge of tree sap too.
Luckily a hosepipe will fix the issue on the Peugeot. Not sure what the interior of the BMW will be like. Sticky, probably.

For making you not worry if something is to happen. Same reason I dont care if I park my car in a bad area or a narrow street. Sucks if its happens but life will go on and insurance will repair/replace it.
What a strange view. My excess I think are 300-500, can't remember, but not under 250 for any policy. Then if you have a claim you have increased policy cost for every policy (I have 4) which is going to cost extra for several years for every policy. So a 'small claim' of say 1 - 4k, might cost me similar in policy excess plus increase premiums, plus calls to insurers which are a massive ballache when I did it once years ago. Then you have to deal with the garage who is fixing it/hire car/complain about work not done correctly, i'd much rather avoid it, as much as possible. If I know it’s not going to rain (like this week has been), then I’ll happily leave the roof off either the TT or the 440i.
Anything remotely snatchable is locked in the glovebox, and as has been alluded to above, the worst outcome I’ve had is the need to hoover out leaves or clean out bird cargo.
At work I’ll even risk a dodgy looking weather day, as if it starts to rain it’ll take me 30s to close the roof.

You are Biff Tannen AICMFP.I once left my window about 10inches down when my car was parked outside my house and someone thought it would be amusing to chuck a fag end in setting fire to the passenger seat and melting a carpet
Fire crew arrived and dealt with it , then the police turned up accusing me of insurance fraud... It was a £500 VW Polo that cost me £600 to insure so not the best scam. Luckily £30 down the scrappy sorted a new seat and carpet but I could never get the smell of melted plastic to disappear.
I'd never leave a cabriolet with the roof down!!
