Use it daily. It will do more harm using it sporadically .

That.
1920’s Bugatti - weekends only.
A rare Fiat Cinquecento special edition - use it 24-7.

I have a slightly different view to above. Using it daily (when you fancy) will wear it out quicker but if you don't use your fun toys what's the point of owning them? You can either enjoy your nice things or save them for someone else to enjoy. The former will bring you more enjoyment.

Rotate. For me - shopping trolley Lexus for boring days. Sunny days - SLK. Snow or emergency call outs - WRX STI.

Does it need to be binary? Can you keep an old estate for tip runs and crappy weather, then getting out the nice car to daily drive when conditions are fine?

By coincidence, on the same trading estate as my office there is a good independent garage and a nice 2004 (??) 911 GT3 went past on the access road as I was outside having a smoke this morning.

It did cross my mind that a GT3 like that was something I could enjoy every day (on the proviso that Mrs. O has a B5 RS4 Audi to carry the pooch / do shopping stuff........)

Depends on the car and where you live. I have some fairly good cars but driving a sports car in downtown heavy traffic ,especially a manual is not a rewarding experience. I am not trying to keep mileage down etc, just want my driving experience to be appropriate for the occasion.

Is that an E46?

I don't think it does any good for cars or motorcycles not to be used.

Kept mine (Z4M) as a second car to keep the wear and the miles off over winter. This summer thought balls to it and been using it every day, I love it, having a great time and have the cliche smile everytime I finish work and walk out to it.

Warning though, it has suffered some stone chipping and daily use type stuff but nothing a couple hundred quid can't sort. I've also stacked a load of miles on it, if you want to keep value in your car etc etc this probably isn't the best idea but I bought mine to use and can't see me getting rid for a long time.

I think it makes sense to use a special car frequently but if you DD it you run the risk of it being less special as you become accustomed to it and start treating it in a different way.

As others have said, just get it driven, we’re only here once.

My daily is a Cayman GTS (981) it’s very special to me, some might think it’s run of the mill but I love it and it’s not to be mothballed for nice days. I almost swapped it for a 997 GT3 which I was also going to drive every day come rain or shine.

This. If I lived in the countryside I’d be driving my fun cars as often as possible. I don’t drive that often anyway as public transport is excellent. As an example, yesterday I gave my son a lift to a cricket club about two miles away. Most of the journey was spent stuck in traffic. There’s no way I’m going to bother taking out my 911 for that so I took our family workhorse. It’s why I bought it. The nicer cars get used early mornings at the the weekend or when I’m driving for longer out of town.

20 years ago my LHD 964 RS was my only car for about 18 months, I racked up about 20,000 miles in it and it lived on the street.

Not too frequently though.

If you do that then it'll stop being special and when that happens special cars become a pain in the arse instead, because if it's something special in the first place you'll still have the concerns about keeping it clean and well looked after and you'll find yourself trying to justify how much time and money you're spending on it and still be worrying about where to park it and if it'll still be there when you get back to it.

I've driven special cars every day in the past and that's exactly how my current one ended up sitting in the garage gathering cobwebs and dust.

This. In the past I’ve used Cerbera and a Vanquish pretty much as dailies and to make the school run/commute entertaining, and driving them doesn’t mean you don’t take care of them. Wouldn’t have bothered if it was just a mile or two or it was all urban traffic as it would have been tedious and frustrating.

The drawback of using something interesting/fast as a daily tends to be that you need access to another car/van for bulky stuff that just won’t fit and it normalises the performance to the extent that dropping down to something slower really requires it to have a completely different character to make it interesting.

Still own both of those cars, with others being used more often now, so the mileage on each isn’t outrageous compared to others of the same age but I’ve still had the pleasure of actually using and getting to know them.
