BMW Z4 2.3i 2010 6 cylinder

Mt BMW Z4 2.3i 6 cylinder has the catalytic converter rattling. Clearly they need replacing. Apparently they are hard to find as nobody seems to have them in stock Can you open the can out and take the catalyst out? Is there an aftermarket replacement?
