Checked with Experian my credit rating is excellent
No points or convictions
20+ years NCB
Nothing has changed

Except my insurance.. £222 last year £418 this year !!

That's eSure, the nearest I'm seeing now is Hastings (who I've heard are poor)

Directline are quoting over £880

Anyone else having this problem?

I can't think of any change in circumstance that would trigger such a hike what's going on

Not me, my renewal due in August is £170, down from £187.

Shop around if I were you.

Posted on another thread, my possible renewal this August with the AA is £177, up a massive £2 from last year.

Still waiting for my renewal figure from Saga who I am currently insured with.

Is this a trend with car insurance?

I am shopping around but so far, besides a few outliers (eg Hastings) it's all shifted dramatically

In previous years I had the pick of various outfits, below the £300 mark

Mrs Scrump’s insurance renewal and my parents’ renewal all less than last year. Not had my renewals yet.

Ok clearly not a general trend then...

Literally nothing has changed [that I'm aware of.]

I'm guessing when i speak to the insurer they will not be able to tell me.

What could it be?

Local crime spike or something?

Not a happy bunny.

Got our renewals through yesterday, mine has gone up by £15, wife's has gone up £132, that's nearly double last years. We are both with same insurance company and nothing has changed, no claims or incidents.

Perhaps the risk profile of the type of vehicle has changed?

7 year old Mazda 3 Sport.

Hardly that desirable for thieves!

Keyless entry might be a factor. (I store my fob in a shielded box indoors.)

Is it worth trying a broker?

You could try a broker if comparison sites aren't giving you any sensible prices.

Strangely both of mine were cheaper than last year (1 in April, the other in June) so it doesn't seem to be a general trend.

Try a comparison site and see what you get.
Maybe your insurers dont want to insure you for whatever reason, change of company policy etc..

Mine fell by £100 this year.

Maybe you are getting old

Did you change the car on the policy earlier this year ?
If so - What car did you previously have, and how long had you owned it ?

It could also just be updated crime and/ or accident figures for : your postcode, your age, or your car make and model.

I was thinking more of the energy companies etc.

Funnily enough my esure renewal came through today. Was £190 last year, down to £178 this year. The joys of an old car and a 1970s birth year.

Is this anything to do with insurance companies not being allowed to offer new customer discounts anymore?

My renewal isn’t up yet, but I’ll do what I always do and go onto a comparison site and take the cheapest quote that has a 5 star Defaqto rating. Not sure if that’s the best strategy, but whenever I’ve had to make a claim (twice in the last 6 years), it’s always been paid out straight away

Mine dropped from £195 to £173 this year, with no change of circumstance. However, my wife's rose by a similar amount, despite also having no change of circumstance. I think for mine the renewal was cheapest, and for her a different company worked out cheaper.

Doesn't seem to be any obvious logic to it, but clearly it's what the statistical models produce.
