Unique Testa Rossa J to be sold at Pebble Beach

Bonhams will sell this Le Mans homage Ferrari on August 19th, with proceeds going to charity

It’s that time of year again. Comes around sooner every time, doesn’t it? Whip out the pastel chinos and dig out the boater hat, because it’s time for Monterey Car Week. With events kicking off from next Friday, expect the very finest in old cars, new cars, all-day sunshine and dubious sartorial decisions

Now, a one-off Ferrari in California at this time of year isn’t anything special, because that’s the kind of festival Monterey is, but this one is a little different. The Little Car Company has built a unique Testa Rossa J - its 75 per cent scale EV of the 250 TR from the 50s - to be auctioned at Bonhams Quail Lodge sale. It’s expected to make between $90,000 and $120,000, or between £75k and £100k at the moment, with the proceeds going to The Pebble Beach Company Foundation. Which sounds like it builds golf courses, but actually works with youth-focused, non-profit organisations in Monterey County.

Anyway, the car. It’s a Testa Rossa J like the others, meaning it’s a Ferrari-sanctioned product and can do 50mph, albeit in a never-before-seen colour scheme for the car. Bianco Cervino with blue stripes commemorate chassis 0732TR, or ‘Lucybelle II’, the 250 TR privately entered by Ed Hugus and Ray Erickson in the 1958 Le Mans 24 Hours - they finished seventh overall. Hugus was a Pebble Beach resident, y’see, for those wondering why the #22 car was chosen. As well as the paint scheme that won’t be seen on any of the other 298 Testa Rossa Js, this one has ‘Lucybelle II’ hand painted on one side of the car and the stars and stripes daubed on the other. There’s also a ‘1 of 1 - 2022 Pebble Beach Edition’ plaque inside.

The Lucybelle II homage is lot number 51 in Bonhams sale August 19th, with the sale kicking off at 11:00 Pacific Daylight Time. There’s more information on Bonhams' site here, and a few other interesting lots if you have the time to look…

Indeed... a beautiful recreation.

I would love to buy a 3/4 scale 250 California SWB should they ever decide to build it, and should my financial position have improved dramatically.
