Anyone used them, the are 300£ cheaper than other insurers.

I change cars a lot so do they charge a fee for changing your car and how usable is their online platform?

I recall reading that they're cheap for a reason. However, if you never have to claim then maybe OK?

Hi

Privilege Insurance are a brand from Direct Line Group, along with Churchill, Direct Line etc.

I don't use them, but they are a customer of mine.

I used them one year. They quoted me about £200 when everyone else was quoting me about £300. Next year my renewal quote from them was over £900 when everyone else was quoting me about £250. Go figure!

No...you should 'go compare'. wink

I use Privilege; initially to insure a 2012 Fiesta 1.2 Style I'd bought for when my son passed his test and I'd just finished work so my company car had gone back. Cheapest by a fair bit and I really just wanted something to make me road legal I suppose. FWIW it was £155 for 6000 miles a year fully comp, social and domestic only (no commuting since I don't work wink ). I jacked up the excess too and added my wife (also retired) which brought it down by £35 or so to the above £155.

After my son got his own insurance when he passed his test I decided it was quite handy having a cheap runabout, so I bought an old 09 Ford Ka and moved the insurance across to it. Privilege charged £10.08 for 'admin' which irritates me because there is no admin since I did it all on line for them, but still £10 isn't much I suppose.

In contrast Aviva didn't charge any admin when we changed my wife's car at month 10 of her policy. No extra on the policy going from a 2011 SLK250 petrol changed to 2016 C200 petrol, also increased the annual mileage from 4000 to 8000 a year as we plan to share the C200 as the Ka was an after thought to the original plan. It was £171 a year and just renewed for £202 (after much shopping around) for the C200, again with Aviva as I couldn't beat the price unless adding a huge excess.

I'll watch what Privilege quote at renewal, but I'm quite used to the dance of shopping around (same with house insurance) and Aviva this year was a surprise exception to that rule, though I did shop around anyway just to make sure.

I've used them in that I've had a policy with them. I've never tried to actually claim from them though.

I'm the same, never actually used them but my main car has been with them for yonks.

They always come the cheapest every year but the odd times when they don't, a quick call come renewal and they've always equaled or bettered the on line stuff.

I've used both Privilege and Hastings in previous years, and all seemed OK with regard to payment, setting up the policy, providing the docs etc, but (fortunately) I didn't have to put them through the acid test which was try to make a claim.

I was handling claims for Privilege about 15 years ago so it's not some new fly-by-night brand. I have heard more negative things about Hastings than Privilege.

I'm just getting quotes now for my M140. Privilege were cheapest by a good margin, but the policy didn't include foreign trips.
Once I added that a few companies came in cheaper.

I used Hastings once and against my wishes they put me on auto renewal.

I had to get Resolver involved to get the auto renewal and the new policy cancelled. Their customer service at that time was not good.

They did however respond very quickly to Resolver when the complaint was raised.

Ahhh, interesting, our CEO was the founder of Resolver, since left there obviously and involved in our current company.

A former company I worked for did some work for DLG but my understanding was privilege was always a budget brand for them in their list of brands.

No sorry, just the ones above and my son is using Admiral (with a black box as he's a new driver, but aged 23). He pays £650 fully comp on a Fiesta 1.2 Style 60PS (the lower power model).

Been using Privilege for a few years now. Haven’t changed the car or claimed but they’ve consistently kept renewals competitive & were good at getting a human being to answer some questions over the phone.
