Does anyone else have a car that they just keep coming back to for some inexplicable reason?

For me it's the MR2, I've owned 5 over the years and thought I was done, then I see a nice one and I get sucked back in again!

I've had faster, rarer, more expensive cars, but it's the MR2 that has a magical quality I can't describe...

I've gad cars I've enjoyed and kept for longer, but I've never gone back to one.

BMW i8 for me, I've had two of the things, I only sold the second one, as I couldn't get the gubbins we needed for the baby in to it! I would happily have another one though.
Very special car to daily drive.

Honda Civic. Have owned five, currently own an Accord R, am considering downsizing to another Civic due to running costs.

A 3 Series touring or a Golf for me. I’ve owned 5 tourings since 1990 (every generation) and between Mrs Gunk and I, we’ve owned 16 Golfs since 1982.

Discovery 4. Regret selling it to get a Disco 5 and every time I see one of the facelift 4s I get reminded how great they are. Saw a perfect one today in red with the black pack and then went off on to Autotrader! Such great cars but the snapping crankshafts stop me getting one.

90's era Peugeots for me, 1x205, 3x306 (2 GTI6's and diesel estate) a 406 Coupe, and a Partner van. Keep meaning to get another GTI6 before the prices go the way of the 205/309 GTI's (they're already creeping up)

Aren't a lot of these examples just getting the newer version/next generation of a car rather than coming back to the same one. I've had 2 different generations of an Astra, but wouldn't describe it as coming back

Modern wise, the Subaru Legacy - I've had 3 of them but now have an A4 Allroad.

Classic wise, the Elan Plus 2 - I just love them. I had a Caterham then a Plus 2 which I restored from the ground up, sold it and bought an Evora which I sold after 2 years, then an Elise 111s (which I still have) then another Plus 2 which is currently mid restoration. There's something about the look of them and the way they drive that keeps me hooked - fantastic cars when built right and correctly maintained, not fast by modern standards but still a match comfort and handling wise to many modern sports cars and full of charisma

DB9 (or any AM).
Don’t think I’ll ever get around to having one now tbh.

Ah, on reading it properly I seem to have misinterpreted the thread.

In this case it would be TVRs. I have had at least one for the best part of 30 years. I can’t really say why as
I could easily have moved on to the usual exotica by now.
They have a certain special something about them I suppose.

My all original paint and bodywork Alpina Green 67 Cortina 1500GT pre crossflow. 37k miles from.new and near perfect condition. I don't use it for months on end and I've been offered silly money for it . I've often thought about seling but can never bring myself to do so.

It's all original bar the engine. Lightened, balanced & blueprinted bottom.end. Cosworth A2 cam, Accralite pistons, Vulcan big valve head , roller rockers and twin 45 dcoe webers. It goes like hell and makes enough noise to wake the hounds of hellbiggrin

987.1 Boxster S. On my second now and I just love its analogue simplicity. Everything about it feels right and it has an epic soundtrack inches behind your head.

Range Rovers, all L322 except for a L405.

Had 5 of them in 8 years, everytime I sell one I regret it and buy a slightly more expensive newer one.

BMW e39 and e46 they are just great easy and cheap cars (not cheap anymore ) and Volvo v70 mk2 as it has 7 seats without being a suv or a pepper carrier.

Minis… logically they make no sense. Unreliable, expensive to fix… but they’ve got under my skin
