It gets me from A to B...
Discussion
Anyone else know people who say this? I can fully appreciate that most people really aren't "into" cars and/or motorbikes and regard their car (or bike) as just an appliance that gets them, as they are always keen to tell me "from A to B". However what I really notice about everyone that says this is that they very often treat their cars like mobile dustbins - similarly I know a lot of bike riders who sort of sneer at me because I look after my bike whereas theirs won't see a bucket and sponge ever. They seem proud of it.
What's prompted me to post this is that I've just bought, for a very reasonable sum it has to be said, a little Volvo C30 off a friend of mine to use for shopping duties instead of the Alfa 159 that is just wasted, sat on the drive. It drives well, premium tyres etc but I have never seen such a filthy interior in all my days. "Don't care, gets me from a to b" he said. It was utterly minging. I have never in my life had to use a bucket and sponge on a car interior before, followed by a wet vac and carpet cleaner vacuum thing. I suspect I'm going to need another pass after this too. How can people drive around in stuff like this? One thing that has saved me from an awful lot more vacuuming and scrubbing was that it was fitted with the factory formed rubber mats which will never have been moved and so the carpet underneath was pristine. The rubber ones need scrubbing and jetwashing.
I realise that not everyone is like me, but really, how can people do this? It's not just him either, my sister is like this and I see cars even worse.

Some of those Volvo C30s also have an orange interior - seats etc, which look absolutely horrible once covered in grime!
Just surprising that its been looked after mechanically but not cosmetically, at least I suppose its better that way round...
I do know what you mean although the end results can be satisfying!

Guilty.
Old estate. Bought literally for getting from A to B in all weather. Couldn’t care less what it looks like inside or out. Sits outside and been washed once in my ownership.
Motorbikes are a different story, garaged, washed, dried and fully detailed after every ride.
I'm the other way round - car gets cleaned every few weeks, but the bike rarely does apart from a damp cloth over lights, instruments, etc. It probably gets a decent wash a couple of times a year at most. It gets used all year for commuting so there is little point, one damp day and it's crusted with filth again.Old estate. Bought literally for getting from A to B in all weather. Despite the lack of cleanliness it is looked after very well mechanically, and I do most of the work myself. You won't be finding a sloppy chain, worn brake pads or too-thin discs, low tyre pressure, any blown bulbs, or old oil/filter (etc etc). People mustn't fall into the trap of thinking that shiny = good condition, or dirty = poor condition. It still polishes up nicely at 9 years old and 65k miles - when I can be bothered.

If I’ve learnt anything by hanging around this forum it’s that people interact with cars in very different ways.
Polishers, racers, shedders, A to B ers. Often the different ‘types’ have difficulty understanding the other viewpoints.
I've learnt that there's an element that turn hostile very quickly, usually if you don't agree that their new nearest and dearest ( GR Yaris, Alpine, Focus RS) is the greatest thing on 4 wheels. I mean I do find it odd when people's cars are just filthy, especially the interior. I mean it only costs £20 to get a car cleaned inside and out. Even if you do it every few months.
I do get the whole A to B bit though, to most people cars are purely functional items. It makes complete sense to me but then so are houses, and most people don't live in a complete sh!t hole haha.

My daughter.
First car was a Peugeot 108, treated it like a dustbin on wheels. Next car Mini convertible 2nd hand, treated it like a dustbin on wheels, third car new Mini convertible lovely dead cow interior all the toys, really smart... yup just another dustbin on wheels the passenger footwell is usually knee deep in rubbish and it never sees a drop of water between rain showers and only gets cleaned when she visits dad.
I have failed...

I am not a fastidious car cleaner, its gets driven to Mr shine hand car wash periodically and occasionally ill get all motivated and tcut/polish it..
But the inside has to be clean. Rubbish removed after every drive (bloody kids) and the leather gets cleaned and carpets hoovered once a month. I wouldn't sit on a sofa and watch TV for a few hours on leather splattered with coffee and 2 month old pasty crumbs and ancient mcd's boxes on the carpet, so why would I sit in a car seat that's the same?
Never understood slovenly car interiors.

Had my nearly new family estate car just over a year. I've cleaned the outside once, the touchable surfaces have been wiped down a couple of times and I think I should hover it as a treat. There's always rubbish in it, but I do clear that out very regularly as I don't like things rattling. No worries though as it get us from A to B. Daughter calls it the adventure car.
Not fanatical but I like a clean car.
I once had to drive a car for the wife of a friend who is by all other accounts a tidy and respectable person- some medical issue involved.
She had had several Newfoundland dogs.
The windows were covered inside in dried dog drool and the seats were covered in matted dog hair and it smelt. It was only about three years old.
When I got it to destination I went home and had a shower, put my clothes in laundry/dry cleaning, and. made sure never do drive any car from that household again.
Got her from A to B though.
I have other friends who use the same term but have clean cars, including one couple who have generally identical Toyota Priuses (Pruiii?). Zero interest in cars and have two clones of the most boring possible car.
