It's originally an NI plate but now UK registered so could well have been transferred the same as a private reg.
Where do you find this information out?Because the letter I has never been used in any number plate combination on the mainland, it is only used in N. Ireland. Possibly a legacy of when the whole of Ireland was part of the UK when number plates were introduced in 1904.
Incidentally, neither was the letter Z until the new format was introduced in 2001.
Of course a 'strategic' number 1 looks the same on the number plate font used.

Ive not seen a NI plate over on the mainland. Is this legal? I assume so.
In fact on this note. Is is possible to see if a car has gone overseas for a period of time, then back? Apart from a gap in MOT history?
There loads of GB reg cars in NI likewise including shed loads on DVLA Swansea purchased private plates just as there are loads of NI plates on GB reg cars In fact on this note. Is is possible to see if a car has gone overseas for a period of time, then back? Apart from a gap in MOT history?
In fact I think Loads of London buses are on NI plates .. certainly all the Boris busses are
