As the title - I’ve a car due it’s MOT. The dash has a small LCD screen and warns the bonnet is open.

Is having this particular warning message an MOT failure? The bonnet is definitely shut and can be opened closed as expected. The message is caused by a sensor/wiring issue.

Long term I’ll be fixing it, but MOT is booked this week.

Given this is PH and it does seem these days people will argue about anything and everything - I’ve fully braced myself for comments regarding poor time management or better still that the car is an unmaintained heap and and imminent danger to all other road users.

Let’s hear it!

TIA

Sadly you haven't identified the car, so your chance of being criticised for buying the wrong one have been massively reduced.

I found this on Google -

"If a car shows a "warning message" instead of a "warning lamp" becoming illuminated, would this be a fail?
No. Under type approval, safety and environmental systems are required to illuminate a "Malfunction Indicator Lamp" (MIL) to indicate a serious malfunction. These are simplistic and easy for drivers to recognise, understand and act on. Dashboard warning messages are likely to be supplementary and provide additional helpful information as will access to the On Board Diagnostic information to identify faults during the repair process.
This is paragraph 14 of this government guidance: http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/CHANGES TO THE MOT TEST EFFECTIVE FROM 20 MARCH 2013.pdf

Does the light go out if you push the plunger in manually?

A quick fix would be to remove the plug ro the switch and bridge the wires.

Bingo! Warning gone. But it's not a fail anyway.

Absolutely - that was to be my next port of call if it was a failure. Or tape over the screen 😆
