Why do people park in roundabout unused exits?
Discussion
Anyone else noticed this odd behaviour? You know, those roundabouts that have an extra exit, which currently lead 10 metres to a dead end, but may have been configured in case of a future housing development.
I see it everywhere. There’s one near me. Today there were two vehicles squeezed into it. It must be really awkward to drive back out again, without reversing dangerously onto the roundabout. All this within 200 metres of official lay-bys in each direction and right next to a big filling station car-park. Weird.

Dogging, fly tipping, fulfilling a sticky and sordid app-based casual hookup, small time street level drug deals, exchanging various stolen goods for a handful full of cash, hurriedly lobbing incriminating evidence into a nearby stream or field, avoiding going home to face another violent domestic for as long as possible or simply stopping to scoff a Maccy D...
Whatever, it's not usually pretty.

Or maybe planning officers looking at what could be built on the exit that was built for future development? Whatever, it's not usually pretty.

our locals park ON the roundabout, its like an obstacle course.
Queensbury Station Parade NW9 - there was parking against the island itself for all of the many years I worked locally up until 1989. Looks from Google street view as if there's double yellows around it now See hereJaguar steve said:

Usually car sharing I find.
I used to live in a place called Skelmersdale which is a new town using roundabouts for traffic flow - people just dump cars at the side of the road for fun.
There's a lot of these dead-ends for new developments, but instead of cars they seem to be full of HGV drivers on breaks (which is fine by me, as the services charge a small fortune from what I can gather).

Haha, I grew up not far away and remember this also as a lad. My 114 bus would often struggle to get round at times, especially if there was something on at Wembley, the place would be carnage. I've done this before, parking on an unused roundabout spur, not dogging. Sometimes the spurs can be quite long, so plenty of room to turn around and face the right way.
With all the private parking company ANPR car parks that abound, it's nice to have somewhere to stop for a break, tidy the car up, without lots of people parking near you and being nosey. At most you might have a dog walker parked there or a van driver taking a break. It's also unlikely that your obstructing anyone or the company looking to develop the land.
