Hi guys. Long time reader first time poster!
As per the title really, Iv had loads of these over the years from road cars to track cars. I find myself after a daily driver to go to and from work with a bit of fun (and possibly the odd track day) have debated all sorts and keep coming back to the ep3s that I know so well.

My last track car a couple of years ago ended up being rusty and getting broken up and sold in bits. It’s making me wonder if they are all getting a bit long in the tooth now or if they are still nice examples out there (that aren’t ridiculous prices more than the where new 😂)

Any input welcome am I doing the right thing? Are they dated in todays world or the ideal fun car to go
To and from work with some fun in between?

I had a brand new one in 2002. Loved it.

I drove a leggy one in about 2017, and to be honest it was underwhelming. The engine didn’t sound right, it felt down on power, and it didn’t handle right on ditchfinders. Some of that might be because I had spent a fair bit of time driving much faster cars, I suppose. Would be interesting to revisit a mint one, if there are any remaining.

I’ve got a ek9 and considering getting rid of my way more practical a4 avant which is my daily for an ep3, prices for decent ones are only going one way so I think if you want one now is the time

They’re still great cars, they still have a place. Really though you need to spend some money to get the best out of them IMO.

You can buy a mint standard one if you want to keep it OEM, otherwise buy a slightly higher mikes one and do some bits to it. Better brakes, better suspension, and LSD

This one has just come up on eBay which I think is superb value for money (if you want to spend £13k on an EP3!)

The answer really is, it depends on what you want it to do.

Similarly I have been looking at DC5's recently after owning one a few years back. I drove one recently and it felt very down on power, but then I had just arrived in my GR Yaris so that might have played a part. From memory though they need a good induction kit like the gruppe m to come alive. Plus the one I drove needed a new clutch which made matters worse no doubt.

EP3's should be good as long as you check carefully for rust. You could import a JDM EP3?

I’m not after an absolute minter, nor a cheap dog, somewhere in the middle I think..
In terms of mods not really overly fussed now a days, probably some nice road orientated brakes and tyres and just enjoy it!

JDM ep3 was always my dream back in the day, definitely the best of the bunch with the nice upgrades, wish I had brought one years ago with the prices now! They are not of the list though!
