I’ll start - somebody on the Discovery 3/4 Facebook group has just asked how to adjust the rear view mirror. Not the side mirrors, the interior mirror.

Somebody had already told them... I just chuckled to myself.

I joined the Focus ST group to find out about potential faults etc.

As expected it is mainly "whats the loudest exhaust" and "where can I get dem Pops n bangs"

Have to admit, this was partly the reason I got rid of my 2.5 ST. The image went downhill, fast. I miss it, but I don't miss the type of owner that has latched onto them now they're cheap.

Which one was it? I've joined the "Mk3 ST/RS Owners (UK)" group, and yes there are a few posts about exhausts, remaps, how to make it louder, etc, but it's not as bad as some. Also a lot of knowledgeable people on there who are genuinely helpful. And it helps it has a good admin team keeping things civil, so it has a friendly atmosphere.

Lexmoto group. Joined one when I had a Venom for a (mercifully) brief spell.

Posts cycle through:

asking for discount codes for cheap parts suppliers
Ruined bike for sale
How can I make it faster
What exhaust is the best

It was something of a novelty when someone would post up their awful t-shirt company that just had a low-res Lexmoto logo on. When I first joined, it was a good mix of posts, people introducing new bikes, having good discussions and I'd offer basic advice on some stuff. Quickly, it descended into the cycle of posts above and has never come back.

Oi - that's my wife you're talking about!

Actually,. hers wasn't all that cheap and she is getting a bit sick of scrotes stealing the door mirror covers off it when it's parked at the station when she commutes into London. Luckily, fingers crossed, I may have sorted that issue without having to wire anything to the mains or fit hidden razor blades...

Also, isn't someone starting a thread to point out stupid stuff on Facebook a bit like starting a thread to announce that water is wet?

I'm currently on the TT owners group which has a near on daily discussion on which shape is best. As I'm sure you can imagine, it turns into a squabble between somebody with a mk1 as his profile picture saying mk1 is best and somebody else with a mk2 as their profile picture arguing that the mk2 is better.

I had to leave the VW T5 owners page as it was turning into a competition of who can order the most VW branded tat from AliExpress.

Was just the ST uk group. May have to take a look at the mk3 st/rs group. Have a mk3 ST3 estate as a daily.

I suppose they're all the same really

'Just bought this car, what mods should I do?'
'Help, stage # tune isn't running right'
'I have fault code P#### what should I do'
'What tyres/sparkplugs/brake pads'

I stay because every now and then there is some comedy gold with people bragging about the fast car they "overtook" or the newly created window in their block because they didn't head advise about the tune or fault codes.

I spent 1000's on the engine and chassis on mine, a 2008 FL performance blue and it was tip top. It ran 325 bhp and 400 lb/ft torque after it was finished. I had to get rid of it as my driving distances had increased quite a lot and it only did 24mpg on average. I traded it in but about a year later, I had a nosy on Autotrader and the MOT status and my heart could have sunk. Cheap carbon stickers on it, painted red calipers, which clashed with the blue, tyres knackered, suspension knackered, sports cat removed for a chav decat pipe etc, windscreen cracked. fk knows what they had done to it, poor thing.

Yeah probably - but I was truly flabbergasted. Next up, the sky is blue

Is water wet though? Wet is a state of being, your desk is dry until you spill some water one it, then it is wet, but pouring water into water doesn't make water wet.

I try to avoid them, I have the TVR group which thankfully is a huge resource full of really helpful people, and as each TVR breaks differently no question is stupid on there.

The Volvo page though *picture of cars dashboard flashing that something needs servicing*
"why is my car telling me this?" One not that long ago, the seatbelt tensioners had flagged up that they needed urgent service "drive to dealer immediately" and the question related was
"What do I do about this? Any suggestions? What does it mean?"
It means go take your car to the dealership and get your seatbelts checked out, the message couldn't be clearer.

A lot of these queries could be quickly answered by reference to the handbook, but mysteriously these always seem to be missing when buying second-hand. Where do they all go? Same as the second key........

Yes they always suspiciously seem to be missing.... The only car I've ever bought that didn't have a handbook was a Triumph 2000, and it was 37 years old at the time so I'll let it off.

T5/T6 owners are a proper special breed and I say that as a long term owner of one. If you can print a vw logo on something that you can attach to a van with 3m tape, T5 owners will lap it up in shovel loads. Anyone aware of the euro look in the VW world? Kinda less is more look? That doesn't exist in the modern transporter world - more is more.
