Anyone ever give back any possessions left in a car they’ve bought? Don’t mean the change in the ashtray or anything particularly valuable but misc things like like CD’s etc?

Not sure whether to pop them in an envelope and post them to the previous owner of a car I bought last year or just bin them.. any suggestions?

Anyone ever found anything unusual or of any value?

I've never found anything valuable, but did find the previous owners OHs work-place ID card under a front seat in one car I bought. But as I'd had the car a few months by then I assumed it would have been replaced so I binned it.

I'm more likely to leave things in cars I've sold. frown

Bought an Audi A8 that had the previous owners iPhone in it. Contacted him when I found it and he said "keep it" as he had a new one. When I said it's got a pin so no use to me he text me his pin!

Also bought an Audi coupe once to scrap for parts. Paid £50 for it. Seller felt bad for not leaving enough fuel in it to drive it home so gave me £10 back. When I got it back there home I ended up finding £19 in change under the seats/carpet/gear gaitor etc!

I once bought a 2008 Audi A3 and it came with an old ipod touch with the old 30 pin, pre-lightning adapter as the previous owner didn’t need it any more.

It still had all his hip hop tracks on it, some of which were pretty decent, and it had all his emails too; some of which were from a website called “adult friend finder”, where his user name was “length1978”.

I found a woman's ID for ITV Manchester stuffed down the back of the passenger seat in a car I bought from a single bloke in Macc... I was all set to crack the murder case till I googled her and she was alive and well and had just had a bit part in Emmerdale.

I bought a Fiat X1/9, and discovered a substantial gold earring under the seat. As previous owner lived locally I took it round to her.

Her reaction made me wonder if it was in fact not hers and I had just landed her boyfriend in a whole heap of st....!

We constant find allsorts, usually coins but found a gold chain and St Christopher in a trade in Mini. Mrs D took that back to the female owner. Most recent was an old Sky box, the original which had a card slot in the front left in the boot of a Subaru.

With the E63 AMG I used to have, I noticed the plastic at side of the base of the drivers seat looked like it had been removed, and put back (not well) I popped it off to try and get a replacement, but behind it was quite a lot of residue of white powder.. Maybe it was a storage compartment for sugar... Henry the hoover enjoyed what ever it was though.

My 130i had the Top Gun soundtrack CD…that went in the bin. hehe

My 335i had various bits of Lego shoved under the rear bench seat.

My other half’s 125i was apparently owned by an old boy who sold it due to no longer being able to drive. I thought the salesman was telling me a BS story until we tried to tax it and it was registered disabled…I was then cleaning it out and found a pack of Tenor for Men so perhaps it wasn’t BS.

Alfa 159, the rear seat pockets were stashed full of packs of condoms and 20 pack of Marlboro lights.

A filthy pair of Aigle wellies in my size - RRP about £250.

Contacted the seller, who had no idea of their existence.

Cleaned them up and now wear them most days!

I bought a car with the soundtrack CD of "The Full Monty" in the CD changer. When I bought the car the seller could only find one key, he eventually found the second key so we met up to swap the CD and key.

I bought an old VW Beetle for breaking years ago... It sat around for a while before I started doing anything with it and when I got to it I found a mass of high end climbing equipment behind the rear seat - harnesses, carabiners, stoppers and stuff.... The guy who sold me the car had cleared out from the address I picked it up from (hence why he was selling up), with no forwarding address, so I sold it all on eBay! Paid for the car five times over!

Bought an old jag once that had a tin of boiled sweets, some driving gloves and some sheets of those white sticky labels on dot matrix paper. They all had printed on them ‘congratulations on your inconsiderate parking’, there were about 200 of them.

Judging by the mot history I’m pretty sure the previous owner had died, so kept all my booty, including the 10cc cassette left in the radio.

Only car of note i can reference was the cheap / sheddy Saxo VTS i bought in '09 to be converted into a track car.

Upon stripping out the seats i discovered a condom (thankfully in packaging and not used) under the rear seat and a brick in the boot that i later found had been the makeshift handbrake for the previous owner.

Upon removing the door / rear trim panels i went on to discover various baggies of ganja - which wasn't massively surprising given that when i collected the car it was rammed with hanging air fresheners on the mirror & steering column. Originally i'd thought they'd used them to hide the smell of water / damp from the leaky sunroof but obviously covering up the smell of ganja was the main aim laugh

That's good that. Climbing gear is expensive!

Never found much interesting in a car i bought, save for a small bag of weed once. Best though, when I inherited the Family car, a sporty Peugeot 106 Xsi previously owned by my gran. Eager to get away on my first drive in my first car, I set off to pick my mates up. To my dismay, I found the Radio didn't work, but the aftermarket Sony CD adapter did, and luckily my dear gran had her best loved Classics album in the glovebox.

Must have looked hilarious, three lads tearing about in a little Pug, typical boy racer fashion, with Vivaldi's four seasons blaring out the windows.

Good memory that one.

I've never found anything interesting after a car purchase but a long, long time ago I hired a VW Camper for a touring holiday in Scotland, When packing all our holiday stuff into it I found a bottle of whisky, a bottle of gin, a six-pack of beer and a box of dog food in one of the cupboards.

Ex-colleague from the motor trade once took in a Fiat Panda in part exchange. Found about €7k in cash in one of the lesser known compartments. Transpired it was ex-hire car and had been used on the continent as a pool car for big cross country drug ops. As far as I know they reported it to the authorities!
