Ok - here goes.

I buy a car from a prestigious dealer.

There's a fault that they can't fix (not their brand).

They send the car to a main dealer (that deals in the brand).

Whilst at the (brand) dealer, a customer reverses into the car.

The customer has admitted fault and wants to go through his / her insurance (and has asked for my insurance details. I'm not happy about that one!).

I appreciate that accidents happen, but what I don't want to do is to get dragged through any logistical crap associated with getting the car fixed.

So, who should sort this out?

a) The dealer I bought the car from

b) The (brand) dealer where the accident happened?

Many thanks smile

The insurance of the customer who reversed into it. Simple as that. Go through your insurance company to get the claim sorted (and get a loan car paid by the other insurer too.

Also, what’s the rules regarding where the car goes for repairs?

There aren't any when you're not the customer, but I'd insist on a flawless repair by a decent bodyshop.

I would suggest if you dropped the car off into the care of the selling dealer they are responsible for whatever happens to it.

If a customers car was damaged whilst in our care and on our property I'd take responsibility for it..

Thanks for the responses so far.

I pretty much agree.

Sometimes, being a petrol head is too much hassle!
