MOT advisories and warranty
Discussion
I'm looking for opinions if the following MOT advisories should be covered by a warranty or not. The car is a Skoda Karoq, just over 35k miles, just had its first MOT and has about 3 weeks of the original warranty remaining.
Nearside Front Shock absorbers has light misting of oil (5.3.2 (b))
Nearside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i))
The main dealer, who did the MOT, is saying none of it is covered by warranty. To my mind it should be, I can understand brakes and tyres not being covered by warranty but I would have thought a shock absorber should last more than 35k miles before it starts leaking. Same with the bushes showing signs of wear. Am I being unreasonable?

I once had both front shock absorbers replaced on MK1 Octavia vRS under warranty. I owned the car from new and they were replaced after approx 80,000 and 3 years. I'd be inclined to argue that one with your dealer. As for the other items, I'd say they're 'consumable' items so not a warranty issue.
Good luck
Good luck
Yes you would expect them to last longer but even in 35k miles if its regularly being hammered over speed humps or banged up kerbs constantly would cause wear and damage.
Secondly they are only advisories due to slight wear and tear so not at the point of failure which is another reason they wont be covered under warranty.

Good point. Next year however…Also remember that advisories are strictly that, a different tester may not have even mentioned them.
My thought process was a leaking shock is clearly not as it is designed, therefore it is faulty. The car is covered by a warranty, therefore faulty parts should be replaced while the warranty is in place. As far as wear and tear goes, where is the line? If a car with 10 miles on it has a leaking shock, wear and tear? No, of course not. My opinion, and it is only that, is that Skoda say the cut off is 3 years because that is how long the warrany is.
Following the "it has not actually failed" thought process, if the engine was knocking or the gearbox whining would that be covered? Not actually failed but clearly not working as designed.

I suspect it's very manufacturer specific, BMW covered a significant amount of suspension issues under the AUC warranty on my 5 series GT.
They replaced the rear airbags, compressor and solenoid when the air suspension failed, then both front control arms after the control arm bushes failed. The car was 5 years old and had approx 35k miles on it at the time.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

I'm begining to think this. My Porsche had a rear airbag leak, they replaced the faulty one and the one on the other side because in their words "If one has gone there is a good chance the other is about to". All under extended warranty. That car is 9 years old, none of this wear and tear get out stuff.I had a similar advisory for 6 years running on my e34 M5 EDC suspension (yes, a long time ago) - suspension was checked out by BMW each time as was still within tolerance...and it was right until I ripped it off going sideways into a kerb.
I had MOT cover as part of my BMW Mondial warranty at the time, so never knew if it was just the dealer not wanting to put a claim in.
The consensus on the M5Board at the time was 'misting' was normal, 'leaking' was not. The first would be nothing more than an advisory, the second would be a fail.

1.5 times around the world, thousands of speed bumps and pot holes in a not so light car based on Golf suspension its not actually unusual for this kind of wear.
They are only advisories though, take it elsewhere and these particular items may not even be mentioned.
Even a comprehensive warranty including suspension components wouldnt cover them though as they technically they haven't 'broken'...
