Jaguar I-Pace updated for 2024 model year

Jag's EV would really benefit from more range and faster charging; it gets new wheel design and paint options

Given the progress being made throughout the world of EVs, it would be great for Jaguar to be able to announce this model year 2024 I-Pace with more range and quicker charging possible - as per something like the Audi Q8 e-tron. Alas, this is not as substantive an update as might be hoped for, the range now comprised of an R-Dynamic S, R Dynamic SE Black, R-Dynamic HSE Black and a 400 Sport but with the fundamentals - 400hp, 292 WLTP miles, 100 kW charging - unchanged. Given how fast things move in the world of electric cars, it’s strange to see an update that doesn’t improve the vital stats. But then we’re not the ones attempting to improve the efficiency of electrical vehicle architecture; it’s clearly not the work of a moment.

For its part, Jaguar says this new I-Pace is more desirable than ever, with a new grille, Atlas Grey front aperture blades and body-coloured rear diffuser contributing ‘heightened visual impact and presence’. Satin paint is now an option for the first time, which is interesting, but the colours don’t exactly sound it: Eiger Grey or Carpathian Grey. A Black Pack is standard on everything above R-Dynamic S, and there’s a new 22-inch wheel on offer. The most significant addition to the I-Pace range for 2024 is a 400 Sport model, as previously seen in the F-Type and F-Pace. Based on the R-Dynamic HSE Black, it adds a bootlid spoiler, adaptive air suspension, 22-inch black wheels and ‘slimline performance seats’.

Nick Collins, Jag’s Executive Director of Vehicle Programmes, said: “I-Pace has always offered a comprehensive package of performance, agility, technology and everyday usability that customers expect from a Jaguar, together with the smooth, quiet and effortless driving experience that electrification offers. We’ve delivered exactly that, and now it’s our latest model to benefit from our approach of offering more curated, richer specifications.

“Looking to the future we’re applying the know-how from our electrified vehicle programmes and accelerated technological development enabled by our collaborative partnership with the Jaguar TCS Racing Team to reimagine Jaguar as an all-electric modern luxury brand from 2025.” A date which really, really doesn’t seem too far away.

The 2024 model year I-Pace is available to order now, priced from £69,995 for the R-Dynamic S. The R-Dynamic SE Black starts at £73,495, the R-Dynamic HSE Black is £77,495 and the range is capped with the 400 Sport, which costs £79,995. Broadly competitive with cars like the Q8 Sportback e-tron (from £71,095) and Mercedes EQC (from £72,335); even an iX3 is almost £65,000. And the I-Pace definitely still warrants consideration against that group, even with just a very minor tweak. Just don’t ask how much less a 585hp Kia EV6 GT is.

So, let me get this straight? It's a trivial "update". Oh dear. When the Chinese manufacturers are introducing new technology at a rapid pace, battery tech is improving at around 5% a year, you cannot afford to stand still. If you stand still, compared to the competition, you're going backwards.

An "update" like this is worse than meaningless. It's uncompetitive, in a fiercely competitive business.

I read Corens piece in the Times….. he also mentioned his spent more time in dealership being fixed than on his driveway. Think at the minute there is also a divide between those that can charge at home and those that can’t, if you can’t it’s not a serious option yet.

It’s a shame as I think these look great, does anyone on here have a positive ownership story?

Jaguar meant to be EV only brand in two years….. haven’t seen any prototype models in press though?

As said in another post - where are the spy shots of the test mules of the numerous new electric vehicles?

I hope someone more intimately linked to JLR might post a few comments that reassure that the brand is not being milked till it is axed, but at the moment it feels, and this is based purely on a personal perception, that Jaguar may not be long for this world, or may be parceled off to another party as a brand name to be used for another companies electric future.

I’ve just read the Coren article and it’s not entirely clear to me whether his problems were with an unreliable car or with public charging infrastructure, I guess both. His failure to reach home that night seems to have been a reliability issue rather than a range problem. To mix the two things and write off all EV’s as a result seems somewhat disingenuous at best. After 4 years of Tesla ownership in Europe I’ve had no such issues, even though I’m not a huge fan of Tesla build quality. I’ll likely swap it for an Ioniq 5 soon as I like having an EV for daily duties and I was impressed with the Ioniq package and how it drove.
Is the UK public charging really that bad?
This Jaguar update appears completely inadequate in the face of current market competition.

Neighbour in my village has just bought one. Looks really good but he says it's just about unusable due to the charging infrastructure - last time out he was in a 40 minute queue for the only charger working.
He hasn't had it long enough to comment on reliability and the range / charging issues may mean it gets so little use he never finds out - but it does look nice sitting on his drive.

What awful promotional imagery…

A blue or is it grey car in a blue studio that dulls the appearance of the car then in some urban environments that again tries to hide the cars appearance. If I was the CEO I’d be bking the marketing team. Plus use of the fk awful ‘c’ word - curated, quite possibly the most pretentious misappropriated word ever and massively overused currently.

Really hope Jaguar are getting things ready for a successful all electric future that really isn’t far away. I do have a soft spot for them - although every time I have considered buying / leasing one they have always managed to send me back to the Germans for one reason or another.

I suspect the main problem that Giles Coren suffered from was a weak 12v battery - there is a motorcycle battery (which throws these rogue warning lights), alongside a normal 12v unit, alongside the main EV battery.

I had exactly the same symptoms in mine, it took 2 months of faffing about between Land Rover Assist and the local dealer to get this battery swapped. I managed in the interim by charging the duff battery myself.

The dealers (or my local one anyway) are utterly useless. Too busy, not enough skills,

If there are reliability issues that have led to a car being at the dealer more than being with the owner, well that has happened with some brands regardless of engine choice.

I haven't read the article but I can understand his sentiment, "X broke! I never want this variant of X ever again!"

Unfortunately a car is something you rely on, regardless of power source.

Add to the mix a slow charging car and getting caught out by a public charging infrastructure that at best could be described as "in its infancy", yup I can see why he said "I'm going back to ICE"

We've had an I-Pace for the last 2.5yrs with no reliability problems. They are fantastic to drive and it has completely converted me to electric propulsion for road cars (my track car will stay petrol). In those 2.5yrs we've covered approx 20k miles and only had to use a public charging point twice. The range is excellent and happily gets us from the midlands to London and back without the need to charge. In terms of outright range we also drove down to Kent (180miles) in 1deg ambient and arrived at our destination with 67 miles of range still available.

Coren is a bellend, who is probably trying to emulate Clarkson by slating british cars. The only difference is that JC actually knows a lot about cars. This Jag iPace ‘update’ though is clearly a sign of a struggling manufacturer and is now sad to see Jaguar apparently dying before our eyes. Lets hope the relaunch as an electric brand can give it another chance at life.

Textbook Jaguar: release a new product and then not do anything with it bar some minor cosmetic updates for God-knows-how-long, whilst your competitors overtake you.

I must see 10 Audi e-trons and Mercedes EQCs for every 1 I-Pace. And that includes the I-Paces that might be on transporters making their way down the A34 to Southampton.

And we heard car manufacturers are slowing EV production down as not enough people are buying them.

Cost to buy and probably also not everyone wants one. I would even suggest most don't, but just like every agenda, the minority claim the majority wants them.

In a recent survey (of hand picked candidates) .......

Seconded.

But mainly because I believe the prototypes need to be out for a very extended shakedown period this time.

J (&LR) need to get rid of this customer-test-engineer perception once and for all.

I'd guess resources are limited and this is the best they could do with what they have. Still a great car though.

I completely agree with the view from dhdev, I have also had an iPace for 2.5 years and had no issues with the vehicle that has covered nearly 25k miles. The charging infrastructure is good enough, but you need to plan your journey. The ignorance that electric cars are as easy to use as ICE is the problem here. For the longer journeys we have made, we made sure that there were places that have more than one or two charging points. I am a petrol head at heart, with motorcycles and other ICE vehicles in the fleet, electric vehicles for short journeys and driving around town are a really good solution in my opinion.

First post but have been reading here for years (and lost my old account details years ago)

I have been running an I-PACE since April 21 and have done nearly 16k miles now. It's our main car and I can't fault it really. It's quick, handles really well for a big car, comfortable seats and driving position and peanuts to run.

Biggest journey we have done is Midlands to London and back on one charge easily. Charging from home transforms the ownership experience for me as I can have enough charge when I leave home, if I had to rely on public charging I wouldn't make the leap yet as the times I choose to use it I would say the success rate of first time connect is about 60% and I probably have about 10% of completely unsuccessful connections.

I've never understood this car. It's not a stylish four door coupé nor an SUV. It's electric but it's small on the inside. Partly because of the traditional dash/lay-out. The boot also isn't huge and the frunk is tiny. Sure, it doesn't drive bad but what electric car does?

scratchchinHmm! New spoiler & Grille! Think ill stick with my EV6 with 350Kw charge capacity & zero realiability issues. Jag really are off the pace at the moment. Im a Cov kid & always aspired to the brand however having only owned 1 brand new Jag that failed to start & left me stranded one night sadly i'll never go back.

I really like the I Pace, I would happily have one, but they hold their price well! this, and the Taycan (and audis version of it) are the only EVs I would own at the moment.
