Radical SR10 gets XXR upgrade

Fastest selling Radical ever now even faster around a track

It’s hard not to be a little envious of our friends on the other side of the Atlantic, at least when it comes to track days and motorsport. Oh sure, there’d be a whole lot of travel, but that’s where an RV and a trailer come in. Just think of the circuits: Virginia International Raceway, Watkins Glen, Sonoma Raceway, Laguna Seca, Road America, Willow Springs, Summit Point... and that’s before mentioning the track resorts. They’re certainly being taken advantage of by Radical’s US customers, with the 70 per cent of the 100+ SR10s sold since 2020 finding their way across the pond. Following their feedback - plus, presumably, the popularity of a similar upgrade for the SR3 - the SR10 is now getting its own XXR overhaul.

Available as a new model or as part of an XXR Evolution Pack to those existing SR10 customers, the latest Radical is described as ‘upgraded for the future’. Many of its modifications are familiar from the SR3, including the central fin, lighter wheels and new daytime running lights. The aero has been worked on, too, with the front louvres said to provide both reduced understeer and better cooling. Optional carbon goodies are on the options list and should slash further precious grams from the 725kg kerbweight. Clearly, these aren’t drastic changes, but every tenth counts in competition as fierce as Radical racing; on which point, both the new SR10 XXR and existing cars with the XXR Evo Pack will be eligible for the Platinum class in Radical Cup championships.

Radical’s Dan Redpath said of the XXR: “We already know why the SR10 has been our fastest-selling model to date. It’s reliable, powerful, and delivers performance like no other car we’ve produced before, while remaining an approachable machine for track day enthusiasts. We’re proud of the lower running costs that come with the SR10 XXR’s long-life 425 bhp engine, and the elements that produce real-time data, creating the ultimate driver’s car. Because of this, we made sure to not forget any of the organic SR10 DNA that is already so popular when we set about optimising it further.”

Those eager to get their hands on an XXR, or upgrade their existing SR10, will be pleased to know that it’s available to order now, with production kicking off in the spring. Time to work out which track day will be first…

Has anyone ever got out of one of these and thought, "bit slow that..."?

I remember going up to drive an SR3 and SR4 on the Brands GP circuit and not really knowing what to expect, but calmed myself whilst driving up by thinking "it's OK, it's got 4 wheels and a steering wheel, it'll just be like any other car".

I couldn't have been any more wrong!! Even with me driving it monstered every other supercar that was on track - and that was the 180hp and 252hp cars. They genuinely recalibrated my 4 wheel performance barometer.

I cannot imagine how quick this SR10 will be with 425hp. I wouldn't half mind finding out though biglaugh

Would love to drive one.

I can't remember how much I paid, but whatever it was it was more than worth it - I guarantee you'll be blown away.

Seriously thinking about getting one myself (won't be an SR10 though!).

Wish they’d do a slightly more elegant ‘halo’. Surely just extending the cage forward with a central bar would be a hell of a lot less jarring, and arguably a lot more effective given the structure as is feeds the (potentially massive) loads of an impact into a completely unsupported beam. The wall thickness of the diagonals must be monumental to prevent it just folding when the ‘halo’ is hit?

Easiest way to conform to global regulations i'd expect.

It's a bit odd starting the article with the implication we don't have decent race circuits available this side of the Atlantic. We have a few here on this island of ours, and plenty within a day's drive once you cross the Channel.

The usual blather from Pistonheads reviewers. Al I could add, just for clarity is Spa, Nurburgring, Dijon, Monza, Zandvoort, Silverstone, Oulton Park, Portimao. I could go on, but I think SpudLink made the point. Also, MCR Sports 2000 for race or track days (and a sack full of change).
