I generally just keep the interior clean ( no smoking of course), but today saw an alternative approach at the supermarket.

Why just have one Little Tree to add a pleasant aroma to your car when you can have a whole forest?.....

Either likes collecting them, or too lazy to remove the old ones.

I "scent" my cars using the Autogylm Autofresh, by spraying it on the carpets after I have vacuumed it. I also spray it under the seats or I buy 65p cotton fresh household air fresheners from Lidl which work better than the tiny and overpriced car ones - I only cut half the removable sticky label to limit the evaporation.

That probably smells like every taxi I went in during the 90s.

I bought one of those "Little Joe" Air fresheners, he smelled good at first but more importantly he has a happy little face to look down on as you waste away another hour waiting to get through the Dartford tunnel again.

He serves a purpose similar to the "Wilson" volleyball in castaway and after a while of bonding I bought him a wife, couple kids and a dog but sadly not long after his smile started to fade and then one day I came back to the car and the little bugger was nowhere to be seen.

I hate having anything hanging off my mirror. I put the air freshener on the indicator stalk.

This is the best stuff I've found for a long-lasting smell that isn't overpowering. Simply spray the carpet/upholstery. Lasts for months and a little goes a long way so the bottle will last ages as well. Other scents are of course available, this used to be called "Stripper Scent" to give you an idea of what it's like.

Autoglym Odour Neutraliser, really pleasant, not in your face smell, bit like a clean washing sort of smell.

Not those air con bomb things, jesus, like an explosion in a chemical factory coupled with a Blackpool B and B that is clearly, and only partially successfully masking the smell of vomit.

Cheap perfume and regret? hehe

Keeping your interior clean and smoke-free is the main thing really, smoked-in cars smell disgusting IMO, likewise empty Starbucks / coffee containers left in cup holders make the interior smell rather stagnant..

When I clean my car and do the interior I'll just vacuum the mats and carpeted areas and maybe give them a light spritz of Febreeze (one of the floral scents, not the 'regular' one), dust and wipe any hard surfaces with interior wipes, quick spray of leather cleaner to the seats, and it's good to go.

I do have one of these Rituals refillable scents in currently though, with the vent set to just slightly open, so even with the blowers on full the scent is very subtle. They do some really nice smells and the refills last for ages. Jo Malone etc do similar ones. Not cheap but a million times nicer than the hand car wash specials that smell like Toilet Duck laugh

I can't think anything worse than using an air freshener in my car - I don't want it smelling like a 'pine fresh' toilet or a tart's boudoir.

I simply keep the car clean and keep the leather conditioned. It always smells nice.

In a similar vein, I keep my house smelling nice by keeping it clean rather than overloading it with plug-in air fresheners or drowning everything in bloody Febreze.

Oddly enough one of my cars car came with both of these preinstalled!

Bottle was found under the passenger seat, I think the bottle being subjected to the heat in the car for who knows how long must have killed the scent in the bottle as it didn't smell of much at all.

It’s this…

Put a tennis ball amount in an old sock, tie it up, chuck it under your drivers seat.

  • Other odours and manufactures are available biggrin

Glad it’s not just me! I honestly don’t know how people manage to get their cars to smell so bad. I’ve never had a car that’s required an air freshener; regularly vacuuming, wiping the surfaces down and conditioning the leather keeps it smelling great - or at least ‘neutral’.

But given that half the population seem to be incapable of keeping their house clean and live in their own filth it doesn’t surprise me.

The relevant word here is leather, which has its own smell, it’s a different situation with a car with cloth seats.

Didn't Peugeot once offer some sort of in-dash air freshener thingy?

Whatever happened to the Poppy Coral air freshners? I used to love these back in the Max Power days when you could get the massive oval in the same shade as your paintwork. laugh

In the fifties Cadillac launched a top tier car called the Biarritz which came with in-car scent as I recall.

My wife's current car has cloth seats and it also needs no air freshener or spray stuff. Again, I keep it clean and vacuumed as required, and it smells absolutely fine.
