Returned to Heathrow after a week away to be ‘greeted’ with the news that the parking company had rear ended another car with my Isuzu pickup .
My vehicle is pretty badly damaged , certainly un-drivable and the Toyota it rammed looked ( from a picture) like a write off . I’m not aware what injuries were sustained but whiplash is a given .
I’m concerned that although the accident occurred on 5th Feb the parking companies ins don’t know anything about it and are now trying to find out the details . Surely i shouldn’t have to be sorting this ?
(I really don’t want to involve my ins co as it may affect no claims etc . )
Meanwhile my car is stuck near Heathrow and I’m without a vehicle.
I want my car brought back here to be repaired locally, can I demand this ? Can I get a suitable hire vehicle?
Feeling a bit hacked off now , having been extremely reasonable with the parking company so far .
Just wondering whether to hire a trailer and go and fetch my car back tomorrow!
Anyone else had anything similar and able to advise ?

What has the parking company said?

And what’s the name of the parking company?

ETA: surely your Isuzu is a write off too. Hard to see how an insurer would stump up to fix what looks like a lot of body damage, and one assumes a fair bit of damage you can’t see.

You might as well just have 3rd party insurance then, but you have to report it to them anyway.

Just let them deal with it. Likely they'll pass it on to an accident management company so you'll probably get a like-for-like vehicle while yours is repaired.

Insurance. 100%.

Thats going to be way too complicated to sort out yourself.

I have done a couple of claims off my own back and its always been very simple car park dings but still been a pain to sort out and took months to get paid out, this is going to need ££££ to repair and be way, way more complicated etc.

Just get your insurance on the case, they will go direct to the meet and greet companies insurance and start the ball rolling.

HTH.

2ps etc.

Phone your insurance company, that’s what they’re there for. Let them sort it.

As above.

I wonder whether the company is properly insured, assuming it wasn't the official Heathrow meet and greet. That is, was the person driving it suitably insured to be doing so!

Nothing you can do about that, let your company deal with it.

Yup. I also predict if you go through your insurance its going to get fixed and back to you by the end of the month. The damage is not that bad so its the kind of job most of the approved repair places love (easy job with good margins). Assuming the wings have not been damaged.

Bonnet, headlight, bumper, paint and maybe some extras like parking sensor, number plate etc. Crash bar and intercooler might be ok... hard to tell.

The sort of job a repair place will knock out in a few days.

The parking co have just passed on their ins details to me . They don’t appear to have done anything , apart from stumping up for an Uber to get me back to Lincoln .
I did wonder if my Isuzu will be a write off , airbags didn’t go off tho’ and it is a 10k + vehicle.
I don’t believe I have to inform my ins as I haven’t been involved in the accident but it may still show on the database !
As said this may take a while to sort out and need a similar vehicle for my work.

I’ll see what response I get from the other ins co tomorrow, if that isn’t encouraging then I guess I’ll have to go through my own .
I hope the guy driving was insured! If not it could be awkward as I have an any driver policy so could end up with the bill .
I’ll park my own f’in car next time !

It's the parking companies responsibility; just let your company deal with them. There's no way you should be stumping up anything from that, they should have cover to deal with it.

Living near Heathrow I can pretty much guarantee most of these companies just park your cars on the street. It's a big problem around here. Just park it locally yourself and get a cab to the airport. Drive these firms out of business.

I should say that an accident management company won't want to to pick it up if there's any doubt they can't recover their costs.

He actually doesn't in this case. His car is being used by someone else, who had insured it for the time they had it. If the OP had been away for longer, they could have got the car repaired thru their own insurers and returned it to the OP without him even knowing.

If my brother borrows my car for a week, and adds it on to his insurance, and he crashes it, he claims on his insurance. Nothing to do with me or my insurance, and no obligation to tell them. I haven't had an accident, a claim or a loss. As said, my brother could get it fixed and return it to me without telling me about the incident.

Your car insirance may have legal cover that could help here

I can’t see how this is a claim on your insurance or would effect your NCB?

Wouldn’t put it past them, but I’d be surprised

Hmm…if your parked car gets hit, resulting in 3rd party insurance involvement, you have to report that. It’s noted on the policy for my wife’s car that a bus hit it. They settled in cash. It did increase the premium by £20.

I think it’d be a stretch to say this is different, although perhaps enough to be able to claim ignorance.

I shall report back tomorrow when the parking co’s insurance have got back to me .
I can’t understand how they hadn’t already had the accident reported from the 3rd parties insurers tho’ . Car looked beyond repair and I would think there must’ve been personal injuries.
They did have a reasonable compound for parking the cars in so at least it’s not completely Mickey Mouse outfit .

Entirely different because in that case, even though it's parked, you remain in charge of the car and at that point in time it is specifically covered by your own insurance policy. In OP's case someone else, under an entirely separate insurance policy, was driving the car at the time. OP was not in charge of the car in any way. What possible reason is there that OP would need to report it?
