Hi all,

Need the hive minds help as I’m clueless when it comes to insurance.

My wife’s car has been hit on her way home from work. No structural damage or anything just a good few scrapes that will need resprayed up the rear left of her car.

I get the feeling the guy who has hit her car can’t afford a respray and will go through the insurance company. He has asked for a quote.

If we have to go through the insurance company for a panel to be resprayed does it receive any category rating eg: Cat N as I’m keen to avoid this?

It only gets a Cat rating if it's written off & put back on the road. A simple panel respray (if that's all it needs) won't trigger any kind of 'marker'.

Without starting an argument, doesn't this depend on the age / value / parts availability of the car?

Yes - repair cost vs value determines whether it's a write off and what category

Just be aware of some repair times, two weeks or more depending if they can get parts.
Our car got hit whilst parked by what we assume was a drunk drive on new years eve, sideswiped it and drove off. Two doors, wing, bumper, door mirror, new front wheel etc...

Got protected no claims etc, but the premiums up for renewal now and is £120 more...
