Anyone care to share their stories of buying and fixing crash damaged or non runner cars as a bit of a project?

I’ve clearly been watching far too many YouTube videos of people doing just that, but it has got me wondering whether it’s worth giving it a bash for a bit of fun, something to do with my son and at least covering my costs or better.

By way of background I’m reasonably mechanically handy, have rebuilt a VX220 from the ground up, I have by most standards a very nice garage, decent tools and just fitted a 2 post lift. I’ve access to a trailer and tow car, have a decent mechanic who is cheap and I can use for “backup”. I am generally short on time, but I wouldn’t be under pressure to get something fixed asap.

Have you got access to a chassis jig?

I've considered this a few times, but I suspect that to do well at it you need a yard big enough to store a few cars so you can buy the same car twice and make a good one from the undamaged bits.

That, or be brave enough to buy new bits from the dealers.
