My wife last night declared, on returning from her mums where I had been summoned for IT Support duties.

It was based on me giving a it a little squirt (maybe 5000 rpm tops, another 2500 or so to go) in second and her complaining, then to get out in front of something coming from the left I gave it a bit more throttle. She had said a while back that it seemed no faster than her Ecoboost model with a remap, that was perhaps as I had never really accelerated hard with her in the car.

"I hate this car, I literally despise it " biggrin

Car is a modified 2015 Fiesta ST.

Previous M135i was tolerated but she is quite anti BMW.

She liked my 350Z roadster, yet not so keen on the exact same model my son has ?

944 Cab, thought it was amusing and looked nice but rattly, smelly, uncomfortable and prone to breaking down, to be fair was mostly bang on.

Mercedes CLS The "Councillors car", the kind of car apparently a local government official would have, not the mayor or anyone but some kind of lower down town councillor, the acceleration made her feel queasy, think because was so smooth and quiet, bit likebeing on a plane taking off.

Saabs were fine.

It's a mixed bag.
For Mrs Tremaine, it's often how I drive them not the car itself...

Morgan 3 Wheeler
She loves it and jumps at every opportunity to be a passenger.

Jaguar XJ
She enjoys the comfort and being driven around in it but does really care about the car overall.

Perodua Kenari
She absolutely hates everything about it and being a passenger in it - which is totally understandable, although I love it!

Suzuki Swift Sport Track Car
It terrifies her, she won't get in it anymore.

Twenty years ago when I met my better half, she had an old Metro and a CZ350, and very little interest in cars.
Nowadays, her daily is a twenty year old, custom MG van and she rides a custom Harley and a Bonneville... You could say that our tastes have aligned.

The only challenge left is to persuade her that the Studebaker Avanti is a good looker... not a problem if I can't tho'...

Fortunately I'm married to a petrolhead who is happy to go with whatever I want for myself and for her daily driver. Only car she has ever been insistent on is her V8 Vantage, I tried to edge her into a Cerbera and that may still happen one day.

She will always jump at the opportunity to take my 650 to work instead of her Giulietta Cloverleaf

She's not a fan of my MX5 NC BBR S200. Hard to get out of, not much easier to get into, and she feels very vulnerable when I'm driving it saying it feels very raw and noisy, and makes her feel sick when I pin the throttle, says it feels scary generally laugh

She never commented that much on the 986 Boxster S, I think it felt a lot more substantial so I had fewer complaints.

She absolutely loathed my mini r53 with a reduced pulley saying it was terrifying when I put my foot down biggrin that'll be the supercharger then.

She didn't like my DC2 when I first met her (this was what I owned at the time) but it definitely grew on her.

Her favourite cars of all of the cars I've had were the E36 328, 350Z roadster, and Z4 Coupe. I'm assuming it was combination of the way they looked and the fact they were refined enough that they didn't feel intimidating.

Not sure what to think about it really as I would probably prefer it if she wasn't scared of my cars. Funny thing is, she was scared of the MR2 as well, but when she actually drove it she had a big grin and drove like a hooligan. Go figure.

As far as the cars themselves go, my partner is pretty indifferent about them. She just likes that I like them so to speak. She never bats an eyelid at any amount of time or money I spend on cars or bikes though which is a big positive! I'm quite lucky in that respect.

Its weird as she spent years getting annoyed at me switching cars, and to be fair there were some disasters, caused a fair few arguments.

Full circle, she would love for me to get rid, but I love it. If and when I do change its staying until I am sure I can let it go without wishing I hadnt.

Answer is, just take hers when we go out together for a quiet life in more ways than one smile

I've been fairly lucky insomuch that I've been able to tell what my wife will (eventually like!)

Mustang GT - she's the one that told me to buy it to replace my M140i!

BMW i3 Rex - I was eyeing one of these up when I was buying my then new M140i. She hated the look of it and agree it's no looker but loved the interior packaging. In 2020 I bought her an i3 rex and within a month was smitten with it, the initial speed off the line, quiet running, space inside, slightly elevated position and how short it was all won out.

Range Rover Sport - I ended up with a job with a 110 mile/day round trip commute so ended up stealing the i3 from my wife. Her initial response when I mentioned Range Rover was a big fat no, but upon threatening her with a 190k miles F-pace she started showing me ads for range rovers. Picked up in December and she loves it, how comfortable it is and the elevated driving position. She still drives the i3 but now prefers driving the range rover despite its additional size.

She's unconvinced about me changing the mustang for a mclaren (as am I to be fari!) Time will tell on that one!

Mine likes the Golf Alltrack, but not as much as she liked the Yetis I had before.

She doesn't complain at all about the Alpine so I think I got away with that. She's not much of a complainer though. She doesn't like loud cars.

My other half understands cars.
Her last car was a MK3 MR2, and she knew how to drive it too....not necessarily how to care for it though..

Together we've changed up.
I have a daily/family do-it-all won't-die Grand Vitara 2.4
She has a daily/family A3 2.0T convertible
She has her weekend dream 1971 T2 camper
I have my weekend dream 981 Spyder

She hit the roof when she saw how much I'd spent on that.... one drive later, she has me drive the long way home every time , she hits the exhaust valve button before I have a chance to and looks at it as we walk away when I do.
What a keeper.

and her.

My wife wants a Mustang, prior to ending up with the ST (was my sons and he wanted a change, so I took it so he could get his new one) I was looking at M4's and Mustangs.

I suggested a Mustang, but despite wanting one herself, she said no as it has to be her car if we get one. She wont ever get one though so she missed her chance, think it would driver her mad after a Fiesta trying to park a big car like a Mustang.

2006 Impreza WRX

It gets mixed reactions from various family members, not all positive and has done for the 17 years I have owned it.

I have been with my current partner maybe 4 years now and we actually had a conversation about the car yesterday, mainly because she was having to drive it back home through the Beacons after I decided to have a couple of pints at a Mid -Wales stop.

It turns out that she had always hated the Impreza, that is, up to the point we got together and she got to know the car. She now loves it and certainly loves to drive it with enthusiasm, which I am fine with. I think the car has won her over just by being a bit unhinged, like me I guess lol!

My scenario is kind of the other way round.

Other than the frightening acceleration, my Wife loves the cars I've owned (other than the R35 GT-R) as they have basically been Performance Saloons (M5's, RS6's, RS4's & S8's) so in sedate modes & me driving sensibly, all have been very nice places to be a passenger. Only caveat other than the R35, was the E60 M5, as that car's engine needed to have it's neck rung & the SMGIII was a little aggressive.

On the other hand, my wife had a Mini Countryman Cooper S a while back (woeful car) & her current steed is a Tesla Model 3 Long Range, which is by far the worst car in the entire world & given her obvious Regal status, I have to drive the damn thing whenever she wants ferrying about.

Usually she couldn't care less really laugh also she didn't get a chance to get used to them as I change them so often!

She did like the previous Jaguar XJ, as it was comfy

She wasn't a fan of the i8, as it was tricky to get out of it.

But the current 159 makes her feel car sick as the suspension is rock hard (and it is to hard riding to be honest!)

I guess I've always selected the cars we buy which probably accounts for her indifference but there are some exceptions.

Over 20 years ago we bought a new Galaxy as the family wagon. I think she quite liked that one but it was replaced by a Nissan X-trail which never really ticked the box for her. About the same time I was shedding in an old 940 Volvo estate which she detested and never drove. And then I bought another shed (Alfa 156v6). This, of course, prompted her to ask why I had so many cars (had my Audi S4 as a weekender) and I needed to get rid of one or more. In the meantime, she would take the Alfa out at any suitable opportunity; that was a first and, I suppose a tacit approval. Sold the Volvo to TG after which it was always referred to as 'our car' when regaling folk about the demise of the Volvo.

She was sad to see the Alfa go but it was replaced by another Alfa (Spider) which when I suggested selling a couple of years ago I was vociferously rebuffed. Finally the family wagon (Nissan) was sold (no tears there!) and replaced by a Q5 on the basis that it was the 'family' car even though our needs for lugging kids etc around were very much reduced. I'm left in no doubt nowadays that it is 'her' car and I must beg and plead if I want to use it.

And finally we come to the Vantage. She's ok with it but would rather be in the Spider! So there you go on balance more thumbup than thumbs down.

Absolutely loves the Amazon.

Hates the Chimaera, she gets nervous in it and starts screaming when it accelerates and makes a loud noise. laugh
