As per 4-pot thread.

Usually eschewed for a more cost-effective 4-pot or a slightly smoother 6-pot, the 5-pot is a rare find in the general automotive population. What's the "best" I5 ever made? (Intel processors not included)

Diesels are allowed in this thread!

UR quattro

Simply for the car its in, the time it was competing and the memories it invokes.

How many 5 pots have there actually been?

Audi have had a few goes at it, as have Volvo. The rest I thought were diesels?

I've got a Volvo S60 2.0T, you can tell its a 5 cylinder, but a bit muted, only 180 bhp, some of Volvo 2.3 HPT T5 Models would be in with a shout

Fiat 20 valve turbo and the na version sounded very nice.

I’m quite a fan of the Land Rover TD5. The Mercedes OM605 is also quite a beast as DPUK proved

Yes, I forgot about that! Any others? I think the Stilo got a 2.4 5 cylinder?

There was the VW VR5 engine which seemed to be popular in the US. I've never driven one, but the exhaust note is interesting.

Another vote for the Fiat Coupe 20V, the NA (particularly the VIS) version definitely sounds better than the turbo too IMO.

My brother in law had one, only 170hp or so but it sounded great. I think it might be one of those cars that is overlooked for so long, then has a resurgence of interest just for the engine.

Silly cheap if you can find one, just like the VR5 Golf

Audi 2.2 in various types found in the UR, URS6, S2 and RS2

Great sound and I’m sure they were strong enough for really big power mods

Fiat Marea HLX Weekend 20v estate. I had one for £220 from an auction back in 2011. Smelt like petrol fumes and the exhaust was held on with cable ties. Good luck finding one now.

Alternatively, the BMW N54 when a coil goes...

Probably the Audi Quattro, but honourable mention for the MK2 Focus RS, the greatest use of that Volvo engine?

A 1990s Volvo 850 is about humdrum as it gets, forget the 850R 850T5 V70R variants, I speak of the most cooking-grade 140bhp vanilla versions.

They really do sound 'beyootifull' on song, and go forever. How many other 5 pots do you see with 3-400K on them, still on the road that are not Swedish?

And how many have had such a long production run. None. Compared tothe Volvo 5-pot any else looks like a 5 min wonder.
