Tracker Nano - Insurance

Looking to reinsure the 4C however the cheapest deals require a Tracker Nano to be fitted. Does anyone have one of these and if so what exactly do they monitor as the information explains the tracker is ‘dormant’ unless the car is notified as stolen. I’m trying to ensure this is the case and not a type of ‘black box’ monitoring the car at all times (not planning any 100mph runs to the shops but even so….).
