My Brother in law is heavily disabled, 55 years old but with the mental age of less than 2. He is in permanent 24/7 care.

He gets a Motability car....clearly he cannot drive himself, but his carers, and family can use that car to get him around or run errands for him. We (the family) are legally responsible for the car on his behalf as advocates.

We've reason to suspect that some of his carers are less than truthful about where they take him in the car, but we have no evidence beyond circumstantial.

My car has a built in tracker, which from the app shows every journey, route, fuel consumption, speed etc etc - to know that on my BiL's car would be a perfect solution.

Can they be bought as all I can see are security trackers that just show location (or alert police if activated) OR fleet solutions for businesses only.

Anyone got any knowledge of one-off solutions?

Simplist option would be a smart tag for your phone and leave it in the car somewhere.

Metatrak Shield might do what you need?

I've got one of their other products, it tracks each journey if you wish and even provides traffic light style alerts for driving behaviour biggrin

Can be accessed via mobile app or web.

Thanks

Will that show history though? I use AirTags all the time when travelling, but they just show current location?

Great, that sounds a good solution. I'll look into it.

Thanks!

As above, either an Apple airtag or similar Android product will give you the basic functions of being able to see where the car is, although they may well alert the occupants of the car of their existence via their phones.

A more involved solution would be to choose something like this or more simply this and opt for the pay as you go year's subscription. You can then follow the car's movements on your phone or tablet/laptop.

I'll leave it up to you to research whether or not the carers have a right to know if a tracking device has been fitted to the car.

We have a Vodafone tracker on one of our vehicles and the app displays all the journeys it has done.

Linked from the page for this thing, same idea but an OBD one, so really easy to connect/disconnect as you like:

Does Brother in Law have an Android phone? As if so, its already been doing some pretty accurate tracking... The data is all already there in the google account.

No. He is hugely disabled. Mental age of around 1. Cannot function by himself at all, hence the 24/7 care.
