Insurance: who carries the claim history from a joint policy
Discussion
Mrs Newc had her car stolen, and claimed on her policy. I was a named driver.
On my car, clearly if Mrs Newc is added as a named driver then the claim for her loss is disclosed.
But what if my policy is only to cover me ? Do I need to disclose the claim from her policy even though I was just a named driver ? Because that feels like we'll both get our NCD's dinged even though only her policy has had a claim.
Googled around for this but can't find it answered, which was a surprise as it can't be that rare a situation. Or maybe my google-fu is lacking.

You can always tell the insurers it was you, if you fancy paying a little more. Then have a worry about that and tell them the truth, then you can worry some more about maybe having your policy cancelled and whether you need to declare that, etc, etc. Don’t forget to declare if you pop a UK/EU/whatever sticker on the back too. HTH.

You haven't had a claim, your wife did. She had an insurance policy and made a claim against it. On my car, clearly if Mrs Newc is added as a named driver then the claim for her loss is disclosed.

You're over complicating this.

That wouldn’t happen even if you’d had an at fault crash in your wife’s car covered by her policy.Sheepshanks said:

No.You have to disclose:
1: Accidents/claims you are involved in
2: Accidents/claims you aren't involved in but which happened on a policy IN YOUR NAME.
3: Accidents/claims that other drivers who are currently on your policy were involved in, be it on your policy or a different policy.
That's it.

I'd tell them what's happened and let them advise whether it's declareable or not.
