Just wondering. Fairly ‘privileged’ childhood/teen years. This is mine 15 and knocking about on a Greek Island after my step uncle made sure I wouldn’t kill him…

Austin Metro.

And a Nissan Micra and vauxhall nova. The torque of the 1.5td of the nova was impressive… would do 70 uphill easily.

Citroen AX Diesel, similar to the pic.

Felt a million times more "connected" driving that than I have in any modern hatchback.

Top right, plastic pedal car.

It’s been a wonderful adventure.

1947 Ford Model 10 E93a. DVN 969. 17bhp I believe...Rod brakes, vaccuum wipers, no synchro, trafficators - the whole shebang of awkwardness.

Sat the test in mother's Triumph Toledo.

Six driving lessons in an Austin 1100 and bit more practice in my Mum's Hillman Imp Californian.

I'd already owned a Berkeley T60 3 wheeler from 16 with motorcycle licence.

Suzuki Swift GTI - lessons & test, plus my mum's MKIII Escort Ghia.

Took a while to find a driving instructor who wasn't using a Nissan Micra (K10) in the early '90's.

A1 driving school in Bristol during mid-1960s had 3 cars & I had lessons in all 3.
Ford Cortina 1300
Vauxhall Viva (1150?)
Ford Escort 1100

Also drove my dad's 1964 Vauxhall VX-4/90 & my (then) girlfriend's Mini 850.

Took the test, and passed first time, in the Escort.

First started knocking about on my late fathers mates farm in an old 309 diesel, remember it had no exhaust so would get gassed out with red diesel fumes hehe Started learning 'proper' in dads Nissan Sunny (n13 1.5slx IIRC) and a K11 Micra with a local driving school, failed then went with the AA (mk4 Fiesta/mk1 Focus) Passed in the Focus.

One of these, though eventually realised the instructor was dragging it out as long as possible, changed instructors who immediately told me to book my test after our first drive, and passed first time in a 1.2 Corsa.

Wolsely 1500, aged 8 under supervision of my driving age sister on a long private road.
Learned to drive properly in an original Ford Transit pick up with the slowest Diesel imaginable, Perkins 4.108 if i recall correctly, colleague who normally drove it had broken his leg playing football so became my accompanying driver for several weeks, then had half a dozen lessons in a real Mini and passed first time thankfully.
