Anyone ever had an online duplicate v5 before?
Discussion
Bought a car which the owner has lost the v5.
Car is sitting in my garage but still registered and taxed by the previous owner.
He tells me that he spoke to the dvla and was told to fill out a v62 form which will get him a replacement v5 in 4 weeks.
I’ve read online you can get an online duplicate though in 5 days which would be much better, (I’m wondering why dvla never told him of that option??)
What does the online duplicate look like? Exactly the same as the paper version?
We only need that document reference number on the front and the ref on the green slip so that he can transfer the ownership to me online/ I can tax it with the new keeper slip and then receive a new v5 in my name in a few days
Thanks

He would be applying for a replacement online through the dvla website , paper copy will arrive at the registered address in normally 4-5 days .
If your thinking you will get something emailed to you or be able to view it online , no that’s not how it works , you need to wait until the replacement Comes via the post .

I had this last year, with a car a dealer that he hadn’t yet received the paperwork.
Rather than wait, I just went straight to the post office and filled out the forms to request the new v5 and tax the car.
What did you need to take with you? I can only find info about taxing at the post office that you need a v5 or new keepers slip Rather than wait, I just went straight to the post office and filled out the forms to request the new v5 and tax the car.

It says online that replacement v5’s take 4 weeks if you’ve lost yours and need a paper duplicate? If your thinking you will get something emailed to you or be able to view it online , no that’s not how it works , you need to wait until the replacement Comes via the post .
I was thinking an online duplicate sounded like the seller will receive a copy he can view online.

But, I had that printed already in the HPI report, that I had also checked against the numbers on the car at the dealers.
We just noted that we had just bought the car in the other section.
Our biggest worry was taxing the car straight away, for which you don’t need the V5 at the post office.
