Having a look at future family transport. Got a bit of a penchant for products where they've had some recent development and something that is not just a 1.0 turbo doing roughly 45mpg.

I was thinking more of the humdrum end of the market rather than unobtainium. It interests me more tbh.

Difficult old going these days. Pretty much a sea of 3pots, small forced induction and some 'vanity' hybridisation aka tiny batteries to skim a few grams of co2 off, but nothing to change the driving experience. Worthwhile hybrids are rare at this end if the market as manufacturers don't think they can make the numbers work.

Clio stands out a bit. Self charging hybrid but nice setup for the money and love the interior for the money. Seems like they're committing to it with the new model too, which enables them to keep selling it rather than going in Ford's direction.

Similarly the newest Civic in family trim looks to be a huge step forward. A shockingly nice CVT, trick dual motor, refinement gets well reviewed and the styling you can get onboard with. Do something smaller with good tech!

Are Mazda up to anything with rotaries or that mad ignition they were working on?

What have you driven recently which is interesting, or where are you looking to put your money?

Didn't think it was that bad! Just have always been into the powertrain side, and it sucks that in most of the market if you want to buy a small car especially you're really poorly served. Frankly even the EV options there are poor at the moment.

Most vag stuff with the 1.5tsi 150bhp engine, runs COD so returns 54mpg in my A3. 150bhp makes it quick enough and makes a nice enough noise.

Mazda are still promising to stick a rotary as a range-extender into the MX-30 crossover, deliveries this summer apparently.

Slightly bigger and more expensive car I think.
The Mazda2 is still available with old-tech N/A four-pots.

There is a new Jazz hybrid which I think has more than nominal battery. The previous gen I drove had a surprisingly nice-sounding engine.

The Nissan Note hybrid is interesting in that it uses the e-Power setup, so drive is all-electric, but not available here
