I was travelling along a B road near Milton Keynes today and entered a temporary 40 limit near a building site. There was one of these contraptions placed some way into the zone with another placed on the opposite side of the road in a similarly innocuous bit of road. They were not illuminated and didn't show any sign of life.

Does anyone know what their purpose is?

I thought that, but slowed down anyway before it did anything.

I have never seen anything like that before, interesting..

Baby Bletchley Blue is a benign alien , so sophisticated that she adapts her colour to co-ordinate with that of approaching traffic and an element of the sky, in this example, an area of rare blue.

That's Alexa, hitching her way to London for the Coronation and will probably meet up with her posh pal Siri.

It's a PA speaker on a stand to bang out some funky choonz to entertain you as you pass by.

There should be another one on the other side of the road for stereo.

Bloody good photo if he/she was driving. Maybe, just perhaps, they stopped the car, handbrake on, engine off, then took a picture?

That’s up the hill towards bottledump roundabout…. They’ve made it all 40mph and it flashes up if you’re exceeding this. In-situ since they removed the EWR depot next to it.
