If you’re anything like me, then you like to own/experience as many different cars (manufacturers), as well as types of vehicle as possible, so over your driving career in terms of ownership, what have been your automotive “firsts”. Feel free to add/delete categories as they apply to you. What boxes do you still hope to “tick” and how do you think you’ll achieve this? For me:

First car mk3 Astra 1.4
First performance car 205 GTi 1.6
First RWD car NB MX5
First sports car NB MX5
First convertible NB MX5
First“premium” car BMW 325i
First “multi”-cylinder car (ie more than 4 cylinders) BMW 325i
First coupe Corrado VR6
First diesel Polo TDI
First turbo Polo TDI again sadly but petrol, Impreza WRX Wagon
First estate Impreza WRX Wagon
First AWD/4x4 vehicle Impreza WRX Wagon
First automatic Mercedes C-Class
First SUV/4x4 WJ Grand Cherokee
First 6-speed manual R56 MINI Cooper
First motorbike Kawasaki Z400

First "classic" (pre-1980) -
First V8 -
First mid-engined car -
First supercar -
First EV/hybrid -

Would still like to own a V8, a mid-engined car and another coupe or convertible. A 458 Spider would tick those boxes (and the supercar box) but probably never going to happen but I think a V8 and a mid-engined car would be doable separately. Not particularly excited about an EV/hybrid but it’s inevitable.

ETA, would love to own a "proper" 1960s/1970s classic car too. Alfa, Lancia, Lotus Cortina, mk1 Escort RS, that kind of thing...

First mid-engined car - Nope
First supercar - A massive nope frown
First EV/hybrid - Nope, but probably will come before a supercar, or even sports car frown

I can only really afford one car, and I need to prioritise running costs over fun for now, hence I'm driving an Astra, the diesel one was changed for a 1.4T after being a diesel and despite 20k miles a year on motorways it got clogged up with carbon and needed massive repairs, which weren't quite worth doing with it's high mileage, so since it was faultless before and my mileage has reduced quite a bit with a job change, I changed for a petrol model.

I skim them, and nod in approval at anyone who shares my taste! I also start to realise that my own list is not very 'cool' compared to others, probably because I'm too risk averse when it comes to age so I'd rather put £25k into a nearly new hot hatch than some 15-year old Italian exotica.

First car - 1998 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec
First performance car - 2017 Focus ST TDCi
First RWD - 2007 BMW 325d E90

First mid-engined car - Not owned (I will have a Cayman or A110 one day!)
First supercar - Not likely
First EV/hybrid - Driven O/H's Mercedes EQA but not owned

My current Renault Megane doesn't feature at all, nor does the Alfa Romeo Guilietta I had a few years ago (should have been a first Italian car question!)
