They won’t want to pay for a key you lost before you took out the policy. To make a claim I’d suggest would be fraudulent.

If you want to know what the cover is read the policy terms.

I couldnt find anything in the policy wording which says the key must be lost at or after the time of taking the policy out

Do you really think you can take a policy out for a specific issue, then apply it retrospectively?

Yes if the policy wording has no rules against it

I lost my primary car key a few weeks ago, still have the spare and hadn't got it replaced.
I'm due to get new breakdown cover soon and there is an optional extra to buy car key cover. In that case if I claim will they pay out for a new spare key and fob? if I do it myself thru Volvo I'd be looking at £300ish, only brand new keys can be coded to the car using their special software, so it's dealership only. I'm just not sure on how this cover is meant to be interpreted, since it's not an emergency with no access to the vehicle, I just want a spare backup key
Naughty boy. Bad boy. In your bed.

Hilarious lack of acuity.

I'm off to Lloyds to insure HMS Titanic against iceberg damage. Flawless plan.

Join the queue, I’ve checked their policy wording and it says NOTHING about the Titanic!

The main flaw is that an HMS Titanic never existed (RMS).

Also, the iceberg has melted - so you do not have an address to which to serve the writ wink

I got a new Volvo remote key coded and cut for my Uncle for £120 from a mobile locksmith. Granted the remote was a Chineseum copy, but it works well enough, so definitely not dealership only.

I know of an acquaintance who bought a Google Pixel 7 Pro, dropped it a week later because he's a tight, useless manchild and has taken out a phone policy to use to repair the already damaged phone. Some people have morals, others don't.

Is this how it works now? Wait for an unfortunate event to happen, and then take out insurance to cover it?

As others have said, some people have morals, others don't.

If you go ahead with your cunning plan, don't EVER complain about the price of insurance!!!!!

Purely out of curiosity, no I don't have any undeclared mods on my own car. However I've read many times of people saying if you were in an accident, particularly an at fault claim, with an undeclared remapped motor, the insurers can take the car away, have it dynoed and void your insurance.
Well, has this ever happened to anyone? Or other things like not declaring aftermarket alloys, or debadging/rebadging etc. What difference do those make in the grand scheme?
