Reading up on the charge when Heathrow comes under the umbrella of the ULEZ and it seems quite confusing.

As far as I know, if you have a non compliant vehicle and you live in or enter a zone in London, you pay the daily charge and if you leave the zone and drive back in again the same day you do not pay twice, which makes sense and sites I have found back it up.

But an article appeared in the Metro on line says quote “For people driving in and out of the airport (Heathrow), they’ll have to pay that fee twice - so an extra £25 for some holidaymakers or good Samaritans offering lifts and pick ups”.

So this isnt right is it? When Heathrow is included in the zone, driving from home whether in the zone or not to Heathrow and back will only incur one payment?

Asking for a pal who unfortunately lives in the zone with a non compliant vehicle at the moment.

How do “they” know that you’ve been to the airport?

So there is a possibility they record a non compliant car enter the Heathrow grounds and charge £12.50, wait as you unload two suitcases and a few passengers and then charge you £12.50 for leaving and going home?

Wow

I think I’ve been living under a rock for years

I would think the journos assumptions are that where even a driver dropping will go through, in effect twice on one day, they will return to do the same at a later date, hence two lots of charges to pay. Unless it's a remarkably short holiday.

I would also think this has been answered approximately a billion times on the very long running ulez thread.

Ha! Didn’t know there was a ULEZ thread, in a nutshell, if you drive into Heathrow and out in the same day only one charge will apply same as driving OUT of a zone having paid, and back in same day you dont pay twice?

You only pay the ULEZ once a day regardless of how many times you enter or exit the zone.

Day lasts from midnight to midnight.

End of thread.
